Presidents Report
What a terrific amount of support we received for our second Miniroos set-up and BBQ on Saturday. There were parents of players, junior players, Club Legends, Senior players and coaches, our Female Liaison Officer, and a few Miniroos kids all giving their time to make things run smooth. Thank you all, “Many hands make light work”. A special thanks goes to Phil Barrett for organising and standing in while our Canteen manager Gary is off chasing leprechauns and eating potatoes.
At Spurs we strive to keep our registration fees as low as possible and to continue to do so we rely on fundraisers such as Miniroos BBQS and Chocolate drives. We have one more Set-up/BBQ on the 3rd August, please assist where you can.
The annual world famous Spurs Trivia night is filling fast. There is still plenty of opportunity create or join a table. It’s also a great way to get your business wares on display by donating a prize for the night. Please contact Townie or myself if you would have any prizes in mind.
Let’s make this one the biggest ever.
Very soon we are going to be calling for nominations for our 2020 coaches across all grades. This presents a great opportunity for some of you to become coaches or even get back into the game. It is quite often a very rewarding experience. At Spurs we supplement our coaches with a variety of educational programs that are offered throughout the year.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you would like to get involved next year.
Next round we are visiting Kelly Park Wodonga to play Twin City, it’s going to be a cracking round of football.
Get along and offer your support.

Match Reports
Div.1 Men v Albury City lost 0 – 3
Yet again the boys who were undermanned this week applied themselves well against in what most people say is the form side of the competition. A hard fought but fair contest, the difference between the two sides was finishing with City taking their chances as we didn’t take ours. Credit to Manny who hurt himself early in the game and hung in there to give us 75 mins. Well done to our ‘Persian Prince’ Adib who after coming off a Man of the Match performance in Reserves made his Senior debut off the bench.
Div.2 Men v v Albury City drew 0 – 0
What a match, we knew we were going to be in for a tough day in the office and just asked that everyone give 100% and enjoy the challenge! Well the boys did that and then some. Every single player contributed to the best of their ability and we were unlucky not have gone 1- 0 up after the keeper got a figure onto Brandon’s well taken penalty. Joel had very little to do in relation to meaningful shots but commanded the troops well from the backline. Yes we may have ridden our luck a little in the second half but it was a credit to the players on how they just kept pushing. We have another difficult task this weekend with Twin City but with the way we have been playing, you just never know what will happen.
Div.2 Women v Albury City won 3 – 0 (Forfeit)
Over 35s v ALbury City won 2 – 0
Well it has been a long time coming but the old guard finally managed to collect 3 points on the weekend. The old boys have been playing very well but just haven’t been able to get the chocolates lately and having getting done by city in the first half of the season this game could have gone either way. Our chances improved greatly once we knew Naymar was missing and we took control of the game from the kick off. Our passing and smart running soon found holes and weakness and the boys really never looked in any danger. Brad must have wondered what he did wrong with the attention he was receiving and it was nice for T-Bone to help him with the negotiations of sportsmanship throughout the second half. On that the anti-bullying / cup of nations pink bib went to T-bone this week for his magnificent finish after one of our best lead up plays of the game, keep banging those in old boy and we will find it hard to get the bib back. We after this win we are now in 6th position and chasing down our revised goal of 4th or 5th. This weekend we take on 3rd placed Twin City and this game normally is worth the trip across the river for the fans of gritty football.
Div.3 Men
16 Boys v Albury City won 1 – 0
On Sunday our 16 boys turned up with their game faces on. It was a very suspenseful game with the boys playing at their best to come away with a well-deserved 1-0 win. With less than two minutes to spare Harry Carmody whizzed past City’s strong defence to put one in the back of the net. Our defence line was bullet proof and with the help of Harrison Nagle, saving many attempts at goals, City was kept scoreless. The game could have gone either way but it was a credit to our boys who kept doing everything right and didn’t panic. Keep up the good work boys that game was grand final winning material.
I have a complimentary hamburger coming my way from the superstar of the game.
By Team Manager Carolyn in lieu of missing report from Harry C!
16 Girls v Melrose lost 3 – 4
The 16 Girls had a tough task on Sunday, they played Melrose and matched the oppositions diminished numbers on the pitch. This left us with a great bench, but with only 7 players on the field there was a lot of ground to cover for an already worn out team on to their second or third game for the day. The girls showed their true ability in the first half, going to the break 3-1 up. But pure exhaustion caught up with us in the end as we let in a few goals. Well done girls you always put in everything you’ve got left after a long day at soccer. Congratulations to Bailee who has stepped in to our keeper role with enthusiasm and made some great saves.
14 Boys
14 Girls v Albury City won 11 – 0
A solid game from the Under 14 girls. They passed the ball well and held possession for most of the game. Alex was solid in defense and worked with with Eloise, Hayley and Abby. Both keepers Georgia and Bailee did well keeping a clean sheet. Our midfield moved the ball well creating many scoring chances wit Ruby finishing the day with 4. Lil, Keely, Daisy had great games. Mya and Maddie played well up front and Elisha finished several nice goals on the back post. Ava was awesome on the wing. Awards to Ruby(Muffin break) and Ava (House of trends).
Enjoy the week off as we stream home for finals.
Best of luck to Keely in Coffs Harbour next week as she represents NSW country. Keep up the great team work!!
13 Boys v Albury City won 3 – 1
With Ethan being rested from goals and Tyreece and Sam in the medical ward we were limited with goal keeping options.
Cooper put his hand up, hardly anyone could see it due to his height, but I accepted his nomination. Remembering the fact that we beat this team 10-1 at Lambert Park earlier in the year I didn’t think Cooper would be too busy.
They scored first! (Facepalm) Not Coopers fault though, they got a cheap one out the back.
To the teams credit they picked themselves up and equalized through some Keely persistence up front.
Conditions were horrid, grass clippings everywhere, first touches were hard to control.
Second half saw Lenny in goals and another attacking domination from us, but again found goals hard to come by.
Wildy whipped in a cracking goal and Will Hale playing his first game of 13s made a brilliant run into the box only to be butchered from behind.
With Ethan desperate for a goal, he took the spot kick and hit the mark. Back in goals next week champion.
Reminder: No 13s training this week.
Goals: Keely, Elisha, Ethan
12 Boys v Albury City won 1 – 0
Although we were lucky to get away with the full 3 points for this game, the score really doesn’t reflect how dominant we were. Most of the game was played in our attacking half with keeper Sam really only getting a touch late in the last half when he was fouled. We missed quite a few easier opportunities for goals, some of them so close to going in it is a miracle they didn’t. Lenny finally smashing in our only goal from centre back. Thanks Len.
Next week we really test our mettle against one of the title contenders Twin City.
With a little agro we can ruin their season.
Goal: Lenny
