MATCH REPORTS

Under 10’s  V  Lavington Panthers Won 3 - 1

Thunderbirds are go !! As part of the Hotspurs Space Program, Rocket 10 was launched at the Lambert Park Space Centre on Sunday. A few timing and ignition issues saw us misfiring a little in the first half and we were fortunate to go to the break 0-0 against the also undefeated Lavington squadron. A couple of great saves and goal line clearances from Garth, Brandon and Blake had kept us on an even orbit to that point. Shock horror !!, we conceded our first goal for the season straight after the break and Rocket 10 lurched back to half way for the kick off. Rocket Commander Jack Day activated the thrusters, cleared for lift off and weaved a passage through the space junk to blast an equalising rocket into the Lavington Space Station. Astronaut Blake soon put us one up with a left foot salvo before a great run from Xavier and Gus was finished off by Rocketeer Zac to clinch a 3-1 victory, catapaulting us to the top of the Intergalactic League. Great contributions from all space cadets with special mentions for Jack Mitchell, Blake and Gus for their defensive endeavour.

Successful rocket launches by Jack Day, Blake and Zac.

Under 11’s  V  Lavington Panthers Lost 1 - 3

It was a dull haze that hung over the under 11’s side who were still in Holiday mode, and with 6 of our regular players away still on Holidays the 11’s were in for a battle. (Thanks to Alex Eggleston and Blake Robbie for helping out). Lavington Panthers must have realized this and in the first few minutes managed to score after a deflected corner went into the back of our net. The Hotspurs under 11’s then awoke and realized this and we managed to gain control of the ball but were unable to find the back of the net, with lots and lots of wasted shots and just before half time Lavington Panthers managed to score again after a break away and put them at a 2 nil lead going into the second half. After half time Hotspurs started controlling the play but due to a couple injuries we were down to 10 players for most of the second half, and our back line did an excellent job and held Lavington Panthers off and they were unable to get a shot off.  After a well placed corner by Ryan.W, Melinda scored to bringing us back into the game, but in one last twist of fate as Thomas (who played an outstanding game) cut across the pitch to stop a certain goal from their break away, but accidentally tripped their player inside our goalies box (giving them one last goal from a penalty) with Lucy doing her best trying to save the goal. It was good to see the young spurs not give up and they fought right until the final whistle.  Goal to Melinda!

Under 12’s  V  Lavington Panthers Won 3 - 0

Tension was mounting, we were light on - 10.30am - Alex out with an injury from the 11’s game, no Nic (injured ankle)... Ryan and Joel (from the U11s) to the rescue! 10.35 with kick off looming - no Lindsay! With the referee in the centre and the players on the field, Lindsay rocketed in from the west in a cloud of dust.  Blast off - Nida was on fire, winning the ball and quickly distributing it. Jarrah remembered the taste of the previous weeks goal and it was sweet – he wanted more! Panthers fought off attack after attack, but by the tenth minute a desperate defence took Jazz down from behind in the box - penalty. Coach Wright called to his regular penalty takers, but Jarrad purposefully grabbed the ball, placed it on the spot and launched a rocket which beat a desperate diving goalie 1-0.

Jamie worked tirelessly on the right in attack and defence. Ben’s clearances saved the day more than once. But the action was mainly our way with great shots from Jack, Joel and Michael. Kasper, James and Lindsay remained resolute at the back rocketing the ball away.  It was only a matter of time as we applied pressure, Nida, then Jack peppered the goal leaving Michael to cement the damage with a pin point precision shot in the top left hand corner of the Lavy goal 2-0.     HALF TIME

The girls relit the blue touch paper, Jamie crossing early, Nida skinning a couple of players and Jamie having a shot. Then Michael wowed the crowd with a rifling shot off the underside of the bar which bounced back into play.  It was about then that Lavy Panthers took off. Although our defence was being hit hard like a rock-it withstood the pressure. Jamie cleared, Lindsay made a great save and Kasper stood firm.  The Spurs fought back. A great attacking run by Jarrah and a number of shots by James set the scene for our third goal 20 minutes in. Will proved conclusively that he has a left foot, what a shot, what a goal!

Final Score: Hotspurs 3: Lavington Panthers 0. Goal scorers; Jarrah, Michael, Will

Under 13’s  V  Lavington Panthers  Lost 0 - 2

A hard fought encounter which started in the usual fast format going up and down the field a bit like a fuel driven cigar shaped thing.  Will. C had a top run which came close to goal.  Jonny. R curled one which flew like a space object just passed the top corner of goal.  By half time we were down a goal, the game continued in the same fashion, the centre kick off  resembled a launching pad and the ball took off like a rocket "that's it a rocket".   The entire side put in a gallant effort and can hold their heads up high even after the second goal was conceded.  There is always room for improvement but no need to be served a rocket.  By Match reporter Paul Bulowski

Under 14’s V  Lavington Panthers Lost 1 - 8

Before we began we knew it was going to be a tough game. We started a bit  sloppy and they scored within the minute. Before the end of the first half 3 more had followed. The second half started off strong with better pasing and ball control. But lavi still got the better of us and scored 3 goals before we got 1 back. we stayed strong and they only got one more after that. We scared them with a  nearly sepctacular goal from Max and thanks to Nick for playing also Sam our goalkeeper as always.

Under 14’s Girls V  Lavington Panthers Won 5 - 0

The girls were fired up & full of run. From the outset we attacked, the ball rarely crossing into defence. A first time goal from Lucy came in the first 5 minutes, from then on the girls lined up forward, passing & shooting freely. At half time the score stood at 4-0 & in the huddle there were red snakes & chatter aplenty. We took the field in the second half with even more enthusiasm (maybe the red snakes) & kept up the pace. Nida finished with 3 goals & Jamie & Lucy 1 apiece. A mention must go to our keeper Beth who after a quiet first half came out for a run up forward, to Paige for her relentless attack on the ball  & to Jocelyn for her timely assistance "all over the field". Well played by all !

Under 16’s V  Lavington Panthers  Won 5 - 2

Minus our broken leg defender we went into the game with some trepidation.  However a good breakfast and words of encouragement sent Johnie rocketing at the defence and he had a brace very quickly.  Phil Robbie filled in for us and his reward was another rocket goal.  Our opposition got the next two either side of half time but then we put on the after burners and Aleki and Dan blew them away.  Well done defence of James, Jake, Paddy and Aleki while every one else earned their rocketeering badges.

Under 17’s Girls V  Lavington Panthers Bye                                         Thirds  V  Lavington Panthers  Bye

Reserves  V  Lavington Panthers  Lost 2 - 5

A disappointing result after a very good first half. Incredibly we led 2-1 but it all fell apart after we fail to work as a team in defence. Highlight was a great goal by Chris Johnson.

Ladies  V  Lavington Panthers Won 4 - 0

The Ladies played well. They took the time to make sure their passing was accurate and the shooting on goal was much improved. The defence was excellent with Lucy, Narelle and Lauren outstanding. Match highlights included two pieces of magic from  Emma-one a shot at goal that almost decapitated Jelena on the wing and the other a  beautiful twist and nose dive in the penalty area - great entertainment Emma.!

Senior Men   V  Lavington Panthers  Draw 2 - 2

A game of two halves- with Spurs starting slowly and poorly and as a result were down 2-0 after 20 minutes. The team regrouped well to get back in the game- and in fact the game could have been won in the end. Two great saves from Drummo kept the team in the game. Tuksar played well as did Glenn Stuckey in his first senior game. Still undefeated !!!
