Last Sunday in the sixteens game Blake Schroeter broke his leg in what appeared to be a harmless
tackle. We have very few injuries in soccer and this was really unfortunate for
Blake who was playing his first game for this year. Blake is back
home with his leg in plaster, his team mates and everyone in Hotspurs is
looking forward to seeing him back on the field soon.
After last Sunday's win the SENIOR MEN are on top of the League table- a
position many did not think can be attained this year. Well done -Guys but
remember there are still 19 games to go!

MATCH REPORTS

Wangaratta Won 3 - 0
Easter holidays played havoc
with our numbers, with 9 regulars being joined by Will Setterfield playing up
from the Nines. One man short, we still dominated most of the possession in the
first half but were denied by a very polished performance by the Wang keeper.
Joe Davies made a couple of crucial saves with Blake, Will and Jack Mitchell
providing lots of run to cover the few breaches of our defensive lines. Plenty
of good passing saw us create numerous chances, all of which were denied,
leaving us with a frustrating 0-0 scoreline at the
break.
The second half saw our
unrelenting pressure rewarded when Jack Day slammed in the opener after
excellent lead up work from Blake, Lewis and Setter. A second goal followed
after Jack Mitchell's through ball was centred by Brewy for Lewis to deftly slot the ball into the top right
corner. A lovely pass from Setter, chipped through by Jack Day, released the pacy Dom Brew who ran from halfway to elude his pursuers
and wrong foot the brave Wang goalie for our third and final goal. A very brave
effort from our 10 man team with good defensive work by Brandon, Daniel and
Chris (who played a great game, persisting with his tackling and holding up
numerous Wang forays until the cavalry arrived !) A big thanks to Will Setterfield for filling in and to Mark,
his Dad, for running the line for us.
Goals: Jack Day, Lewis Couper, Dominic Brew.

Too much
chocolate for Easter or hot enough to melt chocolate. Whatever the reason it was
not until the last 15 minutes that a goal was scored. The defence again was strong repelling Wang's light
chocolate attacks and some heavy, menacing, dark chocolate attacks. At
the change, Hotspurs chocolateers, with renewed vigour attacked with more gusto, one attack being
as slippery as runny chocolate, the Wang' goalie own goaled. Ryan W'
lifted a nice ball to clear heads for another goal and Melinda bagged her
first goal.
Thanks to Blake
for filling in after playing an earlier game.

Wangaratta Won 8- 3
Fuelled by Easter eggs and
chocolate bunnies, the Under 12’s continued on their winning way. The game opened with a bang thanks to great
mid-field work that resulted in a goal to Harry Picnic Perrin in the first four
minutes.
By half time 3 more goals
were added via another one from Picnic, one from Michael Wonka
Wright and Jarah Milky-Way McMillan.
Towards the end of the first
half Wang mounted some very good raids on the Spurs goal line. Some great work
from James Snickers Setterfield (in goals), Big Ben Boost Pearce, Lindsay Mars
Bar Musgrave and rock solid Kasper Cadbury Norden,
kept Wang frustrated and goal-less.
The second half proved to be
more difficult for Spurs as Wang managed to score 3 goals to 4, and got back
into the match. The positional changes challenged the whole team, but the cream
caramels rose to the top. William Malteser McIntosh,
Chris Caramello Koala Bridle and Cadbury all goaled
and Picnic slammed yet another towards goal that received a boost from a Wang
defender.
Goals wouldn’t have come so
easily if not for the unselfish play from Nida
M&M Mollison, Jack Peppermint Pattie Percy,
It was great to see how well
the new players are settling into the Spurs playing style. Well done Smarties, Boost and Milky Way !!!
Hotspurs 8 (Perrin 2, Bridle, Norden,
McIntosh, McMillan, Wright, Own Goal). Wangaratta 3.

It was no Picnic. In fact, it
was hotter than a Café Mama chocolate out there, and for a while it looked as if
it was going to be a matter of who melted first. Hotspurs thirteens
battled hard against a King Size Wangaratta team. The fighting was hard in the
centre, with some Dream-y footwork by Nick ‘Top Deck’ Musarra.
We defended strongly through the whole first half, with the ever reliable Sam
saving a few attempts, aided spectacularly by Tom Hodge’s chest and, it has to
be said, by the cross bar. Wangaratta scored only seconds before Time Out. In
the second half Harry Heath put on a turn of speed to score early, but they
increased their Bounty with three more goals, including a fairly Flakey one close to the final whistle. Thanks to assistance
from a fine assortment of our Favourites from the twelves.

Soccer is like a box
of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Or even if the box is full.
Unfortunately our box was missing a few chocolates this week, so we borrowed
some of the under 13’s chocolates. We began the first half melting the
opposition’s soft caramel centre, blitzing their fruit and nut wings and
gobbling up any chocolaty attacking chances that they had. We continued in the
second half as we did in the first, but we were unlucky to have one placed in
the back of the net. Bringing Wang to 1-0. We fought back hard but like
chocolate we melted in the hot sun and were unable to come-back with a goal.

The girls took to
the pitch full of enthusiasm, on a sunny afternoon, warm enough to melt
chocolate. From the kick-off we came under heavy attack from the Wang girls.
The balls rained down on our keeper Beth like chocolate eggs on Easter Sunday
& by half time the score was 5-zip against us. The half time talk from the
coach concentrated on marking up & getting back in defence (& hair & TV from the girls).
But they were
listening. The second half we played much better. We marked up & put Wang
under some pressure, we had a couple of pushes forward
that were unlucky not to result in goals. Our goal came from a free kick pegged
by Bec into the back of the net. Special
mention goes to Sanne, Stefanie
& Tahlia for their untiring efforts in defence. But all the girls should be proud, although the
score was against them, they ran out the game better than they started
& never dropped their heads. Chocolate for Everyone.

Starting the game with 3
players unavailable, for another reshuffled side we were doing quite well for
the first 30 minutes holding Wang at bay .We managed to create a few chances
but didn't really worry the Wang defence although
some nice through balls saw Camby running on but with
little support up front he really had a hard time putting the keeper under
pressure. Good work at the back by Aleki, Blake and Paddy
saw Chris, ,Jake and Robbie with plenty of the ball but the Wang midfield
and defence didn't give Dan, Jonny
or James any room to move once they had received the ball. Just before halftime disaster struck when a solid tackle from
Blake saw him crash to the ground with a broken leg. Play was held
up for about 30 minutes whilst the ambulance was called to take
him to hospital. On the restart to the game which saw us play only a 15
minute second half, a lapse in our marking saw Wang score their first goal
followed up soon after by another that James was unable to hold on to. The final score 2-0 to Wang . Another disappointing result coupled with the loss of
Blake for the rest of the season, hopefully with the return of Sam, Eggy and Erik next week we can finally start to get some
consistency back into our game.
Under 17’s Girls V Wangaratta Won 1 -0
Another hard
fought game and a well deserved win, it started with both teams testing each
others defences, but our strong defence
held them at bay with our goalie (Annie) only touching the ball a couple of
times, the first half also saw us suffer 3 injuries so we were playing one
short which made the team lift and with some great team work and passing, Emma
Percy in her first game scored a brilliant goal. The second half saw a more
aggressive Wangaratta but with Danielle (“King Kong”) Evans managing to inspire
the team and keep us in the game, both teams worked very hard in the mid field
but our strong defence, and good team work gave us
the edge, right until the nail biting end, Also thanks to Rebecca Briggs for
helping out, Well Done Spur-ett’s!!
Thirds
V
Wangaratta Won 3 – 1
Started slowly
went down 1 – 0 in first five minutes and got a goal back late in half due to
an own goal from ang. Second half penalty taken by Jarred to give
us a 2 – 1 lead and then he got great goal to give us a 3 – 1
win. Great games from Gab, Jarred and a
most improved game from Turbo.
Reserves V Wangaratta
Won 4 – 0
Very
solid performance by the reserves. Daniel Foden scored a terrific first
goal and second by D-Mac was just as good. Joes and Shanes
goals were more low key particularly the celebrations
but they added up to a comprehensive win. Stuckey was excellent at the back.
Jon Cock, VJ Marc Belgre and Chris Viders also played
well.

Wangaratta Lost 0 - 4
We were beaten soundly on the
scoreboard but the game was much closer in reality. We created as many chances as our opposition
but did not convert as well as they did.
Megan played another great game in defence and
Alison and Lucy played really well in their first games for Hotspurs. Both
Sarah's are also showing great improvement each game they play. Hopefully next
week we will take our time in front of goal and reap the rewards.
Senior Men V Wangaratta Won 4 – 1
Certainly
our best performance of the season with the team pushing the ball around well. Tuksar got two goals to add to his tally but the best was
scored by Javi who chipped the keeper after some
excellent lead up play from the back and through the midfield. Some good performances today including Javi
and Tuksar. Luke Briggs and Rowan Winsemius also played well.
