LAST WEEKS GAMES V
Hotspurs had a great day on Sunday when we were defeated in only one game. The
girls teams were great with our 14 girls, 17 girls and our senior ladies all
winning - a rare feat against

Benalla Won 3 - 0
The first game of the season
demonstrated that little was forgotten over the break, with a sound 3 - 0
win over Benalla. In both halves the ball rarely entered the Benalla attacking
zone. When it did, the Spurs defence, ably assisted by the two new recruits
Josh and Ethan, were up to the challenge.
The score would have been
higher had it not been for some good keeping on behalf of Benalla, a tendency
to kick the ball directly into the goal keepers open arms, and a bit of 'kick
and spectate' rather than following the ball in to goal to capitalise on
errors.
Goals were scored by
Kyle on a good one-on-one challenge to the goalie, exploiting the goalies
reluctance to leave the square;

REPORT 2
The young Hotspurs turned up
full of enthusiasm for what was always going to be a hard fought match, with
Twin City after revenge after we knocked them out of last years semi-final. The
game started with both teams threatening each others goals with defences
stretched to the limits and it wasn’t till just before half time when Ryan W
finally managed to slot one in the back of the net after some fancy passing
(excellent team work) from Kyle, Ezra and Joel. The second half started in
similar fashion but our defence of Josh, Esmond, Lucy and Isaac didn’t let Twin
city get off a shot and with Ryan S keeping the ball out of the net, we started
to gain control of the game and have a few more shots at their goal with Joel
sealing the game with one last goal. It was a very hard fought game right to
the end and a well deserved win. Well done!
Goals to Ryan W and Joel.

A heart stopper of a game by
any other name. An even start by both teams for the first 10 minutes until we
settled down to establish some attacking football. The opposition was
put under increasing pressure to snare our first goal. With our
forwards eager to score more, Eggy, who seemed to have been watching
the cricket World Cup tried to bamboozle the keeper by having
the ball spin out of his hands and over the line into the back of the
net. We were comfortably in control of the match with another goal coming
from our persistent onslaught.
Up 3-0 at
halftime we appeared to go to sleep with

Hot Spurs had the kick-off and sent the ball up the centre where Johnny
put one in with less than 30 seconds on the clock. For the next 25 minutes the
play was up and down the field. Will did some good defending and Nick M’s
footwork confusing the opposition until he put one into the net. Johnny and Tom
had several shots but were unlucky. The ref decided 30 min halves were the go
so all had to run hard for another 5 minutes until half time. “Markup” was the
word of the day, especially from Coach Peter and Sam in goals. The second half
saw some big clearing kicks from Matt and Ethan running down the opposition.
The ball made it’s way up the centre again to allow Johnny to score again. Good
defending by Ethan, Matt, Shane & Ben keeping the ball in our half for most
of the game. An unlucky penalty allowed

Like tigers
sleeping in the savannah we had a slow start to the first half. Max’s tiger-like agility enabled him to
score and brought us to 1-0 at the end of a tiger half. The tiger leaped
into motion in the second half and scored 2 tigerastic goals, before the tiger
team let one through their tiger jaws. Revenge for the orange and black stripes
of the tiger was quick with 2 more tiger goals before the opposition was able
sneak by the eye of the tiger. The tiger ran out of steam towards the end but
we managed to sneak in one more tiger goal. A tigerific game by all. Thanks to
the tiger cubs Ben
and Connor for playing up at a tiger level.

Under 14’s Girls V
With a flurry of
gold & black we started the game. The girls were full of run & run they
did. From end to end the ball flew and there always seemed to be a Hotspurs Tiger
ready to attack. We had a lot of the play from the kick off but a
concerted effort by the opposition saw them goal in the 10th minute, much to
the delight of their supporters. Our girls redoubled their effort &
soon belted the back of the net themselves. Their mums, not to be outdone,
brought forth their own cries of jubilation. (Naturally much louder than the
opposition.) We found the back of the net once more before half time through a
persistent, concerted effort by all girls. The opposition coach was heard to
shout "Mark up them little girls". I'm sure she thought we had hid an
"Ambush of Tigers" amongst our Hotspurs girls. The second half both
teams defended well. We had some shots that just missed the mark and in the end
neither team added to the half time score. In all a GREAT EFFORT BY

This was
a game of missed opportunities, a draw would have been a fair result but our
failure to capitalise on chances we made and our lack of commitment cost us
dearly. The first half saw us match a committed twin city side without making
to many scoring chances but our failure to mark and get a tackle
in allowed city to press home an attack that gave James no chance for
their first goal. The second half saw us pick up our play and we started making
chances but despite some hard work from Erik and Cambey we just could not
put the ball away. James for the second week running kept us in the game
but our effort to score cost us another goal with twin city getting
a breakaway and James committed to come off his line the city player
calmly chipped the ball over James head for their second goal. A disappointing
result but hopefully we can learn from this and go forward .Final score 2-0 to
TCW. Training this Tuesday but no game over Easter

A beautiful day
and a great win. There was some terrific team play today – fabulous front-line
passes, terrific tiger-type
tackling, determined defence and fast fancy footwork. Our three goals were
scored by Jess (yes, I used the incorrect Briggsy name last match report) and
at least six others had more than one shot at goal so we will be dangerous!
Our new goalie of
the week, Steph, did a great job and we’re not sure how Terry will procure the next
volunteer…

save from evergreen keeper Harro after a backpass from Waynno. Great work from the midfield. Maddo got
yellow card late in first half. Great
effort by all for first game of year with goals to Dave Robin (1) and Jarred
Murphy (1 + pen ).

Another game
which Spurs should have won.
Great to see the ladies score
a decisive victory. After a first half where we did not play too well, our
supreme fitness started to show and we dominated the rest of the game. Diahann
really enjoyed scoring her first goal for some time even if her boys missed it.
Liz Ryan also scored much to her own delight. Jelena's work rate was an
inspiration on such a warm day. Casey, Gabrielle, Tess and Sarah all worked
hard. Welcome to Lisa S who did well in her first game. Well done Girls!!
Senior Men V
The boys probably
did enough to win the game but it just did not happen. Rob Tuksar scored a
blinder with his left foot after 30 minutes and Spurs had further chances but
they were not taken.
