MATCH REPORTS

We had a great start to the year with most teams winning their games against Benalla

Under 10’s  NO GAME

Under 11’s  V  Benalla  Won 3 - 0

Under 12’s  V  Benalla  Won  2 – 0

With the loss of four players and a gain of three new ones our team may have looked new but it continued on its winning ways.  We played good sensible soccer and generally held our position well, though we need to keep it wide in attack.  Lindsay in goal had little to do while our backs of Kasper, James, Tom, Ben and Michael stopped most attacks in their tracks.  Our midfield controlled the game with Nida, Michael, Chris, Jamie,  Will, Kasper and James setting up attacks and showing skill and determination on the ball.  Jarah, Alex, Nick, Will and Chris were dangerous in attack especially when they spread the defence.  Alex and Nick both scored goals.  Congratulations and lets keep up this standard.

Under 13’s  V  Benalla  Won 3 -0

Fifteen eager players turned up keen to put in a good showing for the first game of the season. Their confidence was given a big boost when Harry kicked the first goal after only 3 minutes. His flashy new blue boots helped Harry put in a huge effort and he was rewarded again early in the second half with a second goal. This was ably assisted by a great cross from Nick B.  Our new recruits, Will, Tom and Ben had terrific first games making the most of their opportunities. The final goal was a result of good pressure from all the team and beautifully finished by a Nick M pass to Jonny. A great start to the season.

Under 14’s V  Benalla Won 12 - 0

Benalla has never had a team in our age group before, so we were not sure what to expect. What we got was about 4 under fourteens and the rest from under thirteens that had already played a game. So the result was no surprise. Our three new players all debuted in style. Mark got his name on the score sheet and Nick and Clinton along with Joss, Ben and Sam kept the opposition scoreless. It was good to start the season with a win but really the opposition wasn't very good

Under 14’s Girls V  Benalla  Drew 1 - 1

Under 16’s V  Benalla  Won 7 -4

The start of another season saw us take the field with a makeshift reshuffled team especially at the back. Jake filled in at the back assisted by Paddy and Sam whilst Eggy took Jakes spot in midfield. Robbie and Chris completed our midfield with Erik, Aleki, Camby, Dan and Jonny making up the forwards. James took his spot in goal and showed good form with a couple of fine saves and although we conceded 4 goals this could be put down to inexperience and our failure to clear the ball when under pressure also we tended to crowd the ball instead of giving space to enable the player with the ball to dispose of it. Luckily we scored 7 goals to win the game Erik picked up 4 with some fine finishing and poaching of the ball showing his ability to make the most of opportunities handed him, while Eggy and Aleki showed their finishing abilities putting away nice through balls, finally a nice shot by Robbie took a deflection to sneak in  just inside the post. Next weeks game against Twin City will see us having lift our game and not be quite so casual, all in all a good result for our first game.

Under 17’s Girls V  Benalla  Lost 0 - 3

The score is certainly not a true representation of the effort and good play by our girls in the first game of the season. There was some strong team work up the sides leading to shots at goal. We had two very unlucky misses - post/top rail deflections, from Rebecca – but that’s soccer. Our first-time goalie cleared the ball well with some quick foot work– well done Skye.  This year we have a very full team, with 17 on the books, so we should never run out of puff! Go girls!

Thirds  V  Benalla  Won FORFEIT

Reserves  V  Benalla  Won  6 – 0

A strong win by the reserves. Marc "Archie" Hallam scored five goals in a clinical display while BIG JOHN slotted a penalty after Trev was cruelly taken out in the box. Top games by veterans Kel Davies, Peter O and Spokesy was a highlight of the game. The refereeing was outstanding, while "Twinge" had a shocker with the flag on the touchline.

Ladies  V  Benalla Drew 0 – 0

A good start to the season by the senior ladies. It was a great defensive display with Megan, Narelle, Tess and Lauren outstanding. The midfield worked hard with the pocket dynamo "yella"  doing a great job. We nearly scored a couple of times near the end to grab a win but it was not to be. The twin Sarahs went well in their first games with the club. It was great to have Lisa back playing and trying to organise some patients for the Base Hospital. Well played Girls !!!

Senior Men   V  Benalla  Won 18 – 0

Yes the score was 18- 0 against a very young and in-experienced opponent. This is probably the biggest win ever by a HOTSPURS senior side. Jim McKillop scored 9 goals before being substituted by coach Mills. Jim will have to play a lot better to get a full game! Robert Tuksar  got 4, Giggsy 2, Ben Porta one and David Robin played really well in his first full senior game and  scored two great goals. The guys looked great in their newstrip sponsored by BAKER MOTORS.
