The best result
in reports yet. The drink award goes to Hugh
Couper for the U14’s Girls report though Craig Day’s “terpsichorean” almost won
with his first report. Please collect
your drink Hugh at the next home game from the canteen. The word for the next report is “treasury”. We will see how many times it can be put it
into a report and still be coherent.

Under 9 Black Won 6 - 1
The eagerly
anticipated first game of the 2006 season took place on Saturday with Hotspurs
Black seeing 4 debutantes for the club - Sam Hodge, Tahlia Schroeter,
Brodee Windham and Paige Weston. With four of our team on holidays we had
the bare eleven to take on Diamonds White. From the outset we dominated
field position and put on a solid display of precision passing and great
teamwork. Sam Hodge had a fantastic first game in midfield whilst Tahlia and
Paige both kept clean sheets in goal. At the other end of the park Jack Day
displayed terpsichorean flair, adroitly finding the back of the
net five times, with Zac Kraich claiming two great goals as well. Daniel
Norden and Anthony White also shone in midfield roles with the entire team
working hard to support each other. A fantastic start to the season, especially with four strong players to return
to the team next week.
Goals: Jack Day
(5), Zachariah Kraich (2).

The tens were
full of enthusiasm as they took their positions on the field, we all knew it
was always going to be a tough match with two undefeated teams going head to
head. Our forwards of
Kyle, Emil, Joel, Cam & Ryan Smith gave their best, but were unable to find
the back of the net in the heavy conditions with Emil the only one to get one
in. Mark,
Ezra, Melinda & Esmond worked tirelessly in the midfield to help set up
numerous chances. The full backs of Henry, Lucy, Issac and Christian
constantly shut down the Diamonds attacks, with

A sigh of relief as the final
whistle sounds! For the annual pilgrimage to the Hotham region had beckoned our
leader “Greg the Pilgrim Wright” for yet another gathering.
For us mere mums and dads our
journey took us to “
Diamonds kept working away
and looked dangerous on a couple of occasions with quick breaks, one resulting
in a goal. As the game went on our team
were showing signs of fatigue and were still under Diamonds pressure as they
tried to peg us back, but the Hotspurs didn’t relinquish. Well done
3 – 1. What a relief!
Under 12’s
Won 6 – 1
Another good win
following on from the great result last week. Diamonds attacked early to score
their first and only goal. Play then swung our way with improving performances
from many of the players, particularly Elijah, Sean and Shane. Holding position
Led to a great goal from Ethan, and Harry
caused a few headaches for the goalie when staying wide on the wing.
Adroit footwork
from Jonny to add 3 more goals on top of 2 own goals courtesy of the red team.
The dynamic Foden father/son coaching combination has triumphed again.
Under 13’s Lost 2 - 3
We almost had the
first full team since the season began! The game did not go well for us
in the first half, with Diamonds taking advantage of the soggy conditions,
getting to the ball first on many occasions and scoring a couple of early
goals. After half time, however, 13s pulled up their proverbial socks,
knuckled down and shifted gear. This resulted in the collection of loose
balls, making passes count by solid kicking and running to intercept. It
really made a difference! We scored two nice goals and defended well,
with only one more by Diamonds getting through. There were some nice runs by
our attackers and midfielders, but we need to find a way to help them and
finish off. It did show, however, that 13s has the ability,
strength and determination to play really well when the chips are down.
Thanks once again to the incomparable Sam B. in goal and the stalwarts of Nick
and Mark in the field.
Under 14’s Lost 3 - 4
Facing off
against the top side this replay off last years grand final was always going to
be our toughest game and it wasn‘t long before Diamonds put us under
pressure scoring within 5 minutes off the kick off. A determined run by Jake with a long range
left foot shoot saw the ball sneak inside the post to put us on level terms. Diamonds
played good passing soccer and our boys were not able to combat this and soon Diamonds
scored another goal despite the efforts of James in goal. Half time saw us 2-1
down. The second half saw our lack off commitment and concentration allow
Diamonds to score straight from the kick off without us touching the ball. This
seemed to get our boys moving and we started to apply some pressure on diamonds
which resulted in a free kick just outside the goal area Blakes effort was
blocked by the keeper but the ever tenacious Chris Camby followed up and put
the ball into the back of the net,3-2. From the restart Diamonds forced a
corner and the resultant kick found an unmarked Diamonds player on hand to head
the ball into the goal,4-2. Aleki popped up as he has the tendency to do to
pull a goal back for us but our lack off commitment again saw us unable to
equalize, Diamonds winning 4-3. Some consolation up to this game diamonds
hadn't conceded a goal now the have conceded 3
Under 14’s Girls Won 7 - 3
It was the muddiest morning we've seen so far
this season but that didn't stop the girls from playing a fantastic game. With Gena using her pure adroit skills to get
a hat-trick, Jocelyn scoring two, Nida
scoring one and Skye scoring our first point, It was a very good game. The first half was a very
powerful yet adroit game played by our girls with Rebecca clearing the ball
nicely helping Hannah in goals and Lucy, Sarah and Emily helping to get the
ball out to Nida and Jaimee who also played fantastic throughout the game using
nice tactics and definitely adroit
skills to place the ball and set up our goals. Our second half was just as good! Well
done Kevin for coaching a terrific game, And a welcome to our newest player,
Melinda, doing great helping in the
midfield. Well done!

Hotspur’s U16’s played a very
accomplished Diamond’s side who demonstrated what can occur when we don’t play
at full capacity for all of the whole game by defeating us 6-1. We began slowly
in the first half with Diamonds playing very strongly. Marcus had a great shot at goal and narrowly
missed which was one of the bright spots of the first half. Jarrod played well as sweeper, and ably
supported by Gabby on the right minimized the Diamond attack.
In the second half we started
much stronger and for most of it kept Diamonds under control. The highlight was a beautiful cross from Dave
to Jarrod who, standing in the goal square, adroitly slotted the ball
home. A further lapse in the last 10
minutes saw Diamonds add another three goals.
Under 17’s Girls Lost 1 - 6
Thirds Lost 0 - 6
Reserves Won 1 - 0
This game
mirrored the situation in the senior men’s game. Playing against the other
undefeated side in their competition and being short staffed by absences and
injuries the Res fought hard to record a great win. A top goal by Clemo after a
good run by Fraser was enough to take the points. The defence of Johnny B, Trev
and and outstanding game by Briggsy the elder kept the glass Diamonds at bay.
Harro was also outstanding in replacing Big John between the posts.
Ladies Lost 1 - 2
Another close
game that did not go our way.We had plenty of the game but had trouble getting
the ball into the net. Hopefully we can get rewarded next week. Gabby played a
great game. Lauren and Emily also played well. Lisa ran really hard up
front(until Jenny kicked her) and Jessica scored a really good goal. Lets keep
our heads up!
Senior Men Won 1 - 0
What a difference
a week can make! Despite having Bones
and Briggsy unavailable - the seniors put on a determined performance against a
talented team. A good first half set up
the game where Robert Tudor scored a nice goal after good leadup play from
Seato and Ryan Giles. The defence worked very hard in the second half with Kel
Davies, Dave McHugh and Luke Drummond outstanding. This was a win that
demonstrated the famous Hotspurs spirit.
