Under 10’s Won 4 – 1

A solid defensive effort this weekend by Mark, Isaac, Thomas, Esmond and Melinda helped keep back the tireless efforts of Twin City, and to keep them too just 1 goal. Due to some (lucky) players being away on Holidays we had to call up some seasoned Under 9s players to assist us, Jack Day and Dominic Brew didn’t seem to have any cobwebs on them for their first game of the year, they joined Christian in the midfield and they all worked very hard all day to keep the ball moving out of harms way. The forwards put on a Plethora of energy today, Ezra, Joel, Ryan W and Kyle were just to hot for Twin City.

Goals  - Kyle 3 and Ryan W 1.

Under 11’s   Won 4 – 0

What a game.  We too had to call on our U10 club mates and we thank Ryan, Joel and Kyle for supplementing our team.  This was a game we truly dominated but Twin City had a plethora of defenders so we constantly hit bodies when taking our shots.  At one stage there were 18 players in the penalty area.  This made it hard to score, so the team used it’s experience and got it wide to open up the middle.  There was a plethora of individual good pieces of play but the holidays did get to us a few times with miss kicks.  Sam, Jack, Kyle, Harry and Ryan played havoc with the defence up front.  Kasper, Tom H, Joel and Jamie controlled midfield while Blake, Ben and Michael were solid in defence with Lindsay doing sterling work in goal especially in the one on one situation.

Goals – Kyle (1), Jack (1), Tom H (1), Harry (1)

Under 12’s  Won  5 – 1

Under 13’s Lost 3 – 4

Up against one of the top teams in the competition, our team took up the challenge to Twin City in a very exciting game that went down to the wire.   After a slow start we started playing like a real team and we came back from 1-4
to be 3-4 with  10 minutes to go. Unfortunately we could not get that last goal to tie the match even though we had many shots on goal.  Well done to our substitute goalie Sam B. who made many great saves including a couple of shots
that he and Ben saved right on the goal line. Overall a great team effort!

Under 14’s Won 3 - 0

Under pleasant conditions the game kicked off ( minus an official referee again ) in our normal fashion, controlling the game but unable to capitalize on our efforts, until a nice through ball from Jake found Erik running on and putting the ball past the keeper.  Twin City played good passing soccer and got past our defence a few times but James was able to keep us in the game.  A second goal came after some good running on the left wing by Chris who crossed the ball over, Erik’s shot was blocked by the keeper and the ball came to Aleki who put it in the back of the net.  We went into half time 2 nil up.  The second half saw no improvement in our play ball watching and not attacking the ball.  A lucky penalty decision going our way saw Erik put a nicely taken shot away to put us 3 nil up.  That’s the way the game stayed, good play by Trent, Blake and Erik encouraging but next weeks game against Diamonds needs to see everyone put in 100%.

Goals – Eric (2), Aleki (1),

Under 14’s Girls Won 2 – 1

It was a chilly afternoon at Kelly Park when 8 cold but enthusiastic girls ran on to the pitch. In the early stages the ball was mostly in our defensive half. We fought hard to keep the ball out of the goal and they came close to scoring but luckily we had a great goalkeeper, Hannah.  Gina arrived, better late than never, to boost the spirit in our midfield. Georgia then came to help in the forward line. Our first goal was scored by Emily and what a magnificent goal it was. At half time we were all tired out but with Kevin’s words of encouragement we fired up and were ready to do what ever we could to win the game. With only minutes to go and the game in the balance at one all coach Kevin made the smart move of putting Rebecca forward. It was in the last 10 seconds that Rebecca was able the steal the ball and shoot accurately at goal. The whistle blew to indicate full time and we had won!!!!

It was a great effort by all the girls but special mention should go to Sarah and Rebecca for great defensive work and to Skye who did well on the wing.

Under 16’s  Won 3 – 0

The under 16’s began the match with a trademark strong first half.  With play mainly in our half, the team set up a plethora of opportunities before Dave Robin nailed our first goal.  Our defence was particularly strong in the first half with Zac Francis playing a brilliantly and, with the rest of our defence, cutting off any advance that their forwards made.  Our second goal appeared to come from a Twin City own goal with Jarrod Murphy taking credit by pumping it into the back of the net.  James Eggleston assisted our win by playing up from the under 14’s and filled his position well.

Our second half was less  solid than our first with TCW missing a plethora of chances.  Their poor kicking and Kai’s strong control of the goal square kept them scoreless.  The final result was 3 –nil.  Despite our current undefeated position we have a number of strong sides fronting us over the next few weeks and we will need to play a consistently strong game for the whole game to keep our winning streak going.

Under 17’s Girls Drew 0 - 0

Thirds Won 2 - 0

Reserves Won 2 - 0

It was good to win but most players felt we did not play as well as we can.  We certainly had opportunities to score many more goals.  Daniel Powell and  Daniel Briggs both played well in an uninspiring team performance

Ladies Lost 1 - 2

Senior Men Lost 0 - 2

A disappointing game from our seniors- who in the coaches words underestimated their opposition who played much better than their position  on the league table. Seato and Briggsy  tried very hard all day. The rest of the team needs to lift because our opponents on Sunday will be very tough.
