Under 10’s Won 5 – 2

We were on the edge of our seats watch this game; Myrtleford tested our defenses, with Cam putting himself in Harms way to save a certain goal. Some excellent team work on the field by Ezra and Christian helped feed the ball forward to Kyle and Ryan W so they could put away some amazing goals. Full credit to all the under 10’s players it was a well deserved win.

Goals to Ryan W (3) and Kyle (2).

Under 11’s   Won 6 - 2

With a squad as hot as vindaloo, Myrtleford  were always going to find it hard to contain our team.  The opposition was tall but we were as fast as any newbie who had been on a vindaloo diet and now needing to find that loo.  It was actually our newbie Will who scored our first goal with his first touch in soccer.  Two more were scored before half time and the parents and coach could settle back and enjoy good team football in the second half.  Three more in the second half  were fine fare , though they did get a couple when we muffed clearances.  The frontmen of Wil, Sam, Jack and Harry were too hot for Myrtleford to control, the midfield of Tom C, Michael, Kasper, Tom H and Jamie were the meat in our vindaloo while the backmen of Nida, Ben, James and Lindsay were the yoghurt to take the heat out of any Myrtleford attack.  Kasper and Michael were our dessert  in goal, making certain we finished the game feeling sated.

Goals – Wil (1), Tom H (1), Chris(1), Sam (1), Harry (2)

Under 12’s  Won  2 – 0

A solid defensive effort from the team this week kept Myrtleford scoreless. The players seemed a bit tired towards the end, perhaps due to a rather late night for some! Good work around the field from Nick M. and Mark. Sam B. was his usual reliable self in gaol.

Thanks go to the multitude of U11 players who helped out.

Harry P. was rewarded with a goal in the first half. A goal also to Elijah after a sustained period of pressure from the whole team. A belated welcome to new player Sam L who is contributing well and has a good boot.

Under 13’s Won 3 - 1

Under 14’s Won 5 - 0

On a bright and warm autumn afternoon, without a hint of vindaloo in the air, our team faced off against an able opponent. The game began with many chances  but it took 15 minutes before we scored our first. A second came soon after and we went into the main break two up, the most dangerous score you can have according to a certain past coach, except it’s not as bad as some hot vindaloo.  The second half was all Spur’s and a brace of goals by James E in two minutes put a sealer on the match.

Goals – Eric (1), Jake (1), Aleki (1), James E (2)

Under 14’s Girls Won 3 - 0

The U'14 girls finally had a full team although still no substitutes. We played an exceptional game winning 3-0. A major step up from last weeks  game  against St. pats. We welcome all our new players to a great season of  soccer. The game itself was free flowing exciting match, evenly balanced  with goals from Nida, Gina and Jocelyn. The defense was excellent. A  well-deserved win U'14 girls!

Under 16’s  Won 5 - 0

Hotspurs U16s continued their winning form with a 5-0 win against Myrtleford in their first home game for the season.

In an innovative move by coach Mollison, Paddy O’Neil began the game away from his usual defending position to start in the attack.   The move paid off quickly with Paddy scoring his first goal for Hotspurs.  Shortly after some precise passing from Tom to Zac to Aras saw Aras post our second.  This play went through the Myrtleford defence quicker than a vindaloo curry after a big night out.

Myrtleford came out strongly in the second half putting some pressure on until we again settled.  Some excellent ball control and accurate passing from Marcus helped us regain control.    His play allowed him to score and set up another goal for Jas.  Our defence was strong and this kept Myrtleford scoreless.

Under 17’s Girls Drew 0 - 0

Fantastic game played today by all girls. We were unlucky not to score after some very good shots on goal. The girls got it together after last week and strung some great passes together, really playing as a team.

Thankyou to Fiona for playing in goal and talking it up for the girls, nice to have some senior experience for the players. Lets keep up this high standard of playing and maybe find the back of the net in the next few games.

(Reports on Previous Games)

Wang v's Hotspurs  Won 4-0

A great start to the season for the girls with a 4-0 win against Wang. Big thankyou to the u/14 girls who filled in and to Kevin for organising the girls on the day.

St. Pats v's Hotspurs Lost 0-6

Today’s game was a bit of a shambles and I’m not really sure what to say about it except we can only get better.

Thirds  Lost 2 - 0

We came up against some tough opposition with Myrtleford. We had a couple of chances with no reward. Another great effort by all the 16’s with special mention to Aras & Dave. A stunning goal to player coach Wayne McClosky, hopefully next time he will be able to do it at the right end.

Reserves  Won 1 - 0

A close game by two fairly even teams. There were few goal chances as both defences dominated the respective forward lines. The Hotspurs spirit shone through as Rowan Winsemius- just back from Buhtan or Borneo or somewhere slotted a great goal to take all three points. Three wins from Three games. Coach John is very happy.Good games from Hamish (before hammy trouble) and young Clemo

Ladies Lost 4 – 1

We knew Myrtleford was going to be a tough game but in the first half the girls were as hot as a vindaloo holding them to 2 - 1 at half time. Unfortunately the heat got to us in the 2nd half forcing silly mistakes that a strong Myrtleford forward pack capitalised on. Shannon Had a great game up front setting up a goal that was finished by Lisa. Yellow dominated the right wing in her first game for the season and all the back line battled like champions. Great team effort everyone!!

Senior Men   Drew 3 - 3

This was a really good game of soccer. Myrtleford started well with quick passing and good running off
the ball. They scored in the first ten minutes and Spurs had a real fight on their hands. Gradually the black and gold got into the game and both teams went goal for goal finishing at three each. Some memorable moments included coach Darrel breaking his nose on a stray Myrtleford boot. Two great free kicks -one by Mills and one from our opponents. A top game from both Luke Briggs and Dave McHugh in defence. Kelvin Davies calmly slotting the equalising penalty and Robert Tuksar missing a chance that even Dave Mchugh could have scored. A very entertaining match.
