Dear Hotspurites,
Thank you to all club members who were able to put in
reports for their teams. There is one
apology this correspondent must make from last weeks information and that is
the spelling of Darrell Mills name on the back of the now useless draws. Sincerest apologies old man !
In regards to injuries we were sorry to hear of Alex
Eggleston’s broken wrist and hope he has a speedy recovery. This is the third our current U11’s have had,
so no more please.
The draw is being rewritten but we do know the next
three weekends of games and byes. Check
the net at www.saw.asn.au for the draw some time in the future.

EASTER
WEEKEND 16th
April NO GAMES
Finally as a small test for all our report writers,
see if you can get the word “
smorgasbord “ into your report next
week. It’s a challenge you don’t have to
accept but let’s be inventive.
Under 10’s Hotspurs 5, Wangaratta 1
Excellent first game of the season, Wangaratta only managed to slip 1
past. Great team effort with a few
first time players, all players tried extremely
hard.
Goals to Kyle (2), Emil (1), Joel (1) and Ryan
W (1).
Under 11’s Won
9 – 2
Not since the halcyon days of the Under nines has
this team seen a scoreline of this size.
We blasted the cobwebs off and have began our season very well. The ball was sent wide and we combined to
string passes together and cut Wang’s defence to pieces. Five goals were scored in the first 12
minutes ( four by us ). Our frontline of Harry, Sam and Alex dazzled
the opposition with the midfield of Nida, Michael, Tom H and Jack providing
great support, putting away goals and helping in defence. The backmen of Blake, Kasper and James
thwarted many attempts while Chris was stalwart in goal and a good replacement
for Blake when they swapped positions.
Tom C came on to provide excellent attacking moves down the left wing
while Lindsay while new to our team fitted in well and settled into
fullback. Congratulations on a great win
and let’s concentrate on the basics again next week.
Goals – Nida 1, Harry 1, Sam
1, Tom H 3, Alex 2, own goal.
Under 12’s Drew
4 – 4
Under 13’s Lost 1 – 6
Under 14’s
Won 8 - 1
The boys turned up, full of
enthusiasm, buoyed by last years finals success. Rodger spoke about
playing to their abilities & doing it for Phil, in
We attacked
from the outset, many shots either missing their mark or fended off by the
opposing keeper, until Aleki found the back of the net twice with skilful shots
set up from the midfield.
Wang fired up
after the break, slipping their only goal through our dropped guard, which
spurred us into action. From then on it was all our way. Three goals from Erik,
including a header from a corner by Jake & goals from Blake, Aleki
& Sam sealed the deal. James fended off a good shot from a tiring Wang.
Good hard work from the back line & midfield ensured that we had most of
the ball.
All team-mates
played well and "newboys" Sam, Wade & Pat fitted well into the
team. A good first round result which hopefully will spur us on in this weeks
game against a revitalised
Under 14’s Girls No
game.
Under 16’s Won
6 - 3
Hotspurs were too strong for Wangaratta winning by 6-3
in bright sunny conditions.
Despite a weaker second half
with both sides scoring 3 goals, a strong first half saw Hotspurs stay in
front. The game was used by Coach Will
Mollison to introduce some of our new recruits, Jonathon Lindsay, Georgia
Oudeman and Daniel Ryan, who made their mark.
Others players were tried in new positions to as the new team takes
shape.
Goals were shared by Dave
Robin (3), Zac Francis (2) and Jas Murphy (1).
Overall there was a strong start to the season with the team showing
much potential but also with some work ahead of us.
Under 17’s Girls
Won 4 – 0
Thirds Won 5 – 3
A strong
performance against a tough opponent, particularly at their home ground. From
the kick off Spurs were committed & hard working, building up an impressive
4 – 1 lead at half time. We faded a little in the second half, allowing Wang to
score two more goals whilst we could only find one (heat got the better of
us?). This was a particularly impressive start to the season for a team that
hasn’t played together before as it consists of 3 seniors, 5 of last years
thirds and about 8 U/16s & Ladies players (which is likely to be the norm
for the season). All players put in 100% which really showed on the
field, fearlessly lead by coaches Wayne & Sean – well done to all. (goals
to Matt Townsend 3, Jarrod Murphy 1, Glenn Stuckey 1)
Reserves Won 3-2
The Res got up in a tough game.
It was a good effort considering they were behind at half-time.
Poweeellly scored a cracker of a goal and really enjoyed playing in a winning
team. Fraser's winning goal was well taken and he looks like he will get plenty
more this year. Young guns Clemo and Marky
made solid debuts in the Res's. Top win everyone!
Ladies Won 3-1
The Ladies played very
well against a strong Wangaratta team. The defence was excellent
with Georgia Ouderman outstanding and the veterans Mellanie and Emma forming a
good team at the back. Fiona did well in goals and new players Jenny McCann and
Lisa Gaukroger doing a great job.
Lisa scored a goal in her first game for Hotspurs. Well done all players!
Senior Men Drew 0-0
The senior men played
quite well in a tough start to the year. In a game the spurs should have won-
we seemed the miss at least twenty goal scoring opportunities through bad
shooting, bad luck and good saves by the opposing keeper. No player can be criticised
for a lack of effort. We will play much worse this year and win games. Lets get
three pointsthis week.
