Match
Reports Saturday:
U'9 Black v Lavington Panthers: Drew 1-1: Perhaps the most exciting and tense game of the season. Lavington came to the match having won all their previous games, and our team certainly knew it. Still, they had no fear, just a sense that it could be difficult. The game was quite even throughout and our defence held solid, limiting Panthers to few presses forward and little time in our last quarter of the field. The defence is a credit to all, with Ethan and Matt playing strongly and Sean regularly committing his body to the cause. In the midfield and forward, the passing was excellent and unselfish play was a highlight. Again James scored the goal with speed and agility a key to his attack. We had more presses forward than the Panthers, but to their credit, they held us out. Their goal came from a free, just outside the box and was deflected into the goal. The team took a step up in this game and can be proud of the effort and determination committed by all. All players played well, ending with a great result.
U'9 Gold V Twin City: Lost 0-4: After a week off from a bye we were a bit sluggish to start. The guys weren't keen to challenge for the ball, which resulted in us being 0-2 at half time. The second half saw us play a lot better with us consistently attacking the opposing team. I thought the score didn't reflect the true nature of the game. Angus and Ben did their best in goals. Good try team.
Match Reports v Albury City
Seniors: Won 7-2: Not
as smooth as the scoreline suggests. We were under the pump early with our
opponents going for all out attack! We made one forward move and scored through
Simon Beckett. We did not push it around as well as we can -–but the defence of
the other team made it a lot easier than it should have been. Ryan got a
hattrick – Bones scored two- one was a beauty! And Tuksar got the other. Our
best players were defenders including Daniel Powell, Daniel Kannonberg, Daniel
Antonello and Spokesy. Simon also played well up forward.
Another
win this week and the fat lady will
be warming up the tonsils!
Reserves: Won 3-0: I think the opposition were expecting an easier game than they got. They only fired up after we went 2 up, then they turned the pressure up for 10 minutes and we responded with a 3rd goal. Andrew, Jimmy and Harro were the scorers. It was our best performance of the season by a long way. We passed the ball to our team and to feet a lot more than we have been doing and we didn't make any silly errors. A great performance by everybody on the park. If we can play like that again next week, we will beat Wang.
Thirds: Lost 1-3: After a number of losses, the game against City was one that could be won, we were given a golden opportunity early as City started with 9 players, it took them nearly 20 minutes before the full team was on the field. However, the Spurs were unable to make a make any head way and spent most of the first half defending. Barry did an admirable job standing in for Rhys, at half time it was one all. The highlights of the first half was a great shot by Stan but unluckily it hit the cross bar and a great individual goal by Josh. The second half was no better and City managed to get two more goals. We continue to play with little team work, communication or purpose and this is showing via our position on the ladder, it is time to stop making excuses and put in a full effort as 10th out of 11 is not the place to be.
U'10's: Won 2-1: The Hotspurs juggernaut continued on, to record the teams 20th consecutive victory (02/03). A great win against some very tough and determined opposition. Hotspurs dominated the first half, but failed to put away the chances that they created. Daniel put away his penalty chance only for City to balance the ledger immediately afterwards as we failed to clear the ball from the area. Despite missing our rep players from defence, our replacements coped admirably. Ben Clement after a shaky start completely shut down their star striker. Tyla, Thomas and Junior also contributed strongly for the defence. The second half was great end to end stuff with very chances for either team. Max, Daniel, Sam, Dominic (improved again with increased work rate) and Will (fantastic skills) all working hard to produce some great soccer in the midfield. Phillip switched with Tyla and put in a great effort, shutting down several City attacks. Again teamwork was great, as our calling for the ball is starting to improve. James Ellis kept goal with little to do, clearing when he had to. Daniel slotted home another penalty after the City defence insisted on handballing for a deserving winner. Every game is going to be tough as all the teams are now out to get us!! Teamwork will prevail. Star player award - Ben Clement, great defence & marking.
