Match
Reports Saturday:
Under
9 Gold V SS&A RED lost 3-1:The team went down
3 - 1 against SS&A Red but were unlucky not to have
scored on more occasions. Bradley put in another solid performance in defence. James finished off a brilliant team goal set up by the unselfish play of Thomas Hensley. Thanks to our goalies on the day, Nida and Nick. Good effort guys!
Under 9 Black V City 0-0 draw. A top game with both teams playing very hard. The defence of both teams was excellent and this made it hard for the forwards. Matthew and both Dylan’s were great defenders while Paul ran hard in the midfield. Nick and Jack tried to set up a goal for the team and both played very well. Next week we play the other Hotspurs team which will be a great match!
Match Reports v St.
Patricks:
Seniors: Won 1-0:
A good win against a team who has been in good form. The football was of a good
standard despite the wet and difficult conditions. We were on top early but
could not find the net. Scott Cremer scored halfway through the second half to
seal the win although St.Pats came at us strongly late in the game. Top
performances by Darrell ( filling in for Danny at sweeper) Simon in his debut
for seniors also Spokesy, Bones and Ryan Giles played well. Remember-If we win
every game for the rest of the season-we will be league champions!
Reserves: Lost 0-1: A
possibly undeserved penalty at the end of the first half cost us our first loss
of the season. When we played the ball on the ground we looked the better team,
however St. Pats won 80% of the game in the air. Neither team had many shots at
goal in a game dominated by both defenses. Wayne had a solid game in the middle
of the park and Josh, Andrew, Peter followed by Justin were strong in defence.
We didn’t play badly but we can do better.
Thirds: Drew 1-1: After
last weeks disappointing loss to Twin City we were ready to improve, we had
plenty of fresh legs on the bench so everybody was expected to put in fully in
the cool damp conditions. We started well, controlling the ball in the mid
field and defending well to prevent them having any easy shots on goal, Rhys
was busy but most shots were fairly easy to save. We had limited attacking
opportunities but the one we had, which built up from a good cross from Stan to
Amy resulted in a great goal. Defending a one nil lead after half time proved
hard work, St Pats attacked constantly and again our defence harried them all
the way to prevent any clean shots, Pat, Barry and Phil stood out at the back.
Unfortunately 5 minutes before time a high lob from a scramble in our box
resulted in the ball spilling from Reece's hands and trickling over the goal
line, the goal was suspect as there was a number of players and spectators who
felt Rhys was unfairly pushed by St Pats, but the goal was awarded and we
finished with a one all draw. This was a good result against a top team, well
done to all 16 players
U’15’s: Won 15–0:
Not much of a challenge today against a 10 man St. Pats line -up. For once the
boys held their positions in an easy game with out all of them queuing up to
score. Luke got 7 goals David 2 Seato 3 Mitch 1 Ben 1 Clint 1. Well Done- keep
working as a good squad.
U’13’s: Lost 3-6:
Well kids you tried but our defence was down once again. Great play by all ,
well done Jake for sticking to his player. We had plenty of shots at goals , but
just couldn’t score. Goals went to Caleb , Stuart both from penatlies and an
own goal. The award went to Stuart. A
reminder to parents your child should be at training on time or a bit earlier ,
if you can`t make it -let Will know please. Get well soon Daniel from the team.
Thank you John for doing the line.
U’12’s: Won 1-0: Damn
clouds! Our solar powered kids were only charged enough to get the message from
the brain as far as the cervical vertebrae, and not the feet as would be hoped.
This led the game to become a hard slog of thump the ball forward at all times,
challenge hard and fight for the ball. To their credit they did this, and came
away with a tough but important victory. Our hard battling, particularly in
defence by Liam2, Harry and Tim continually thwarted the opposition, and
finally provided an opportunity for Olly. What a shot it was, producing a
genuine contender for the Golden Holden Hubcap Goal Of The Year Award. For Ms
Ward et al "so up and down are these adolescent boys, honest Al, they
provide stress through periodic disasters"
U’11's: Lost 4–3: This was a game we thought we were going to win, then thought we were going to be at a hectatomb and finally we almost drew. The game began under grey skies and then it started to rain, bucketloads. The first half was even with a couple of chances both ways but good defence by Jason and Robert held them out for most of the time but one got through for us to be down 1-0 at the break. Again we started the second half well with a great lob attempt by James E desperately saved and we were pressing them into errors. However we went to sleep and they got some soft goals to be leading 4-0 with fifteen minutes to go. Finally we got rid of the nasty goal gremlin with Chris W getting two crackers and Robert the third. We tried to get that last one but time ran out. Chris C, Brent and Blake tried all day and Michael showed skill on the park. Now the hoodo has gone lets score heaps against United. Thanks to the parents who helped on our duty day. Best Player - Michael Wilkinson.
U’10’s: Won 4-1: A game of two halves really as we failed to play any near our potential in a dour first half struggle. Once again we let the opposition in for a weak first half goal to give St Pats the ascendency. Too many of our players were standing and watching as the opposition strolled through for a simple goal. Slowly but surely the guys started to realise that they had to work if they were going to win this one. Tyla came on from the bench and put in an equaliser just prior to the break. The second half was a major improvement as we started to dominate with relentless raids on their goal. Tyla added a second to complete a great start to his 10th birthday, while Phillip and Daniel both added to the scoreline to record a good win. We will have to get back to the basics if we are going to beat the stronger teams over the next few weeks. Star player awards - Rebecca for great defence and Tyla for a strong midfield performance.
