Albury Hotspurs v SS&A–Sunday, August 11 2002
Seniors v SS&A,
lost 0-1
We were punished for an error
we made and didn’t capitalise on their errors or our attacks. Three games
remaining before finals and lots of improvement is required. Some of us need to
rise to the challenge and accept responsibility for the team’s performance by
trying to create the play, not sitting back watching others do it.
Thirds v SS&A, drew 0-0
A pretty good game by our team. Rhys was in good form again and Phil and
Hugh Aitken both played well. Brendan Jones was busy in the forward line. We
are just on the edge of the eight so we need to get another win to play in the
finals. If we work hard like last week we can do it!
Our best game of the
season saw us only 1-0 down at half time even though we were short one player. The
second half took its toll with us letting in another goal. A big thanks to
Jocelyn for helping out. Great game in goals from Casey and Shannon.
Under 14s vs SS&A, won 4-3
A good first half
saw us up 3-1 at half time. Yet again after half time we lowered our work
rates and let the opposition back into the game. We were lucky to come
away with a win against a weaker team of the league. Goals scored by Luke (4).The
team will have to put in for the whole game next week if we want to beat United.
Great games by John, Daniel and Ben.
Under 13s v SS&A, lost 5-1
We were after a win this week against a team we can beat. But it wasn't to
be. While we were still waking up, they scored three quick and easy
goals. There was a fight back in the second half and Matt Reid scored a
great goal to show us we were equal to the task. Matt Townsend led the charge
and Daniel fought hard. Unfortunately, there were a couple of
questionable decisions that helped stall our attack. And before we knew it, the
Reds had pocketed another two. If not for Todd’s good work in goals, it would
have been worse. There were glimpses of commitment from everyone, but only
glimpses. One way to stay committed through the whole game is to get fitter. So
how about everyone at training!
Under 12s vs SS&A, won
4-0
The team played
hard, right from the start with the first goal by Ricky. SS&A tried but our
great goalie saved the day, then there were more attempts to put the ball in
the back of the net by Shannon, Jessica , Daniel , David. The next goal was
from Caleb which was passed off by Shannon, then came Aras’ goal passed off by
Caleb and the last goal by Stuart, back from a rest. Our back line did a
fantastic job with help from our midfield, with our goalkeeper saving the day
with some fantastic saves. Awards go to Jazz and Tom. Thanks to Stan for
warming the kids up also to John for doing the line.
Under
11s vs SSA, won 2-0
A
very pleasing performance from the whole team saw the result this time going
our way. Fine goals from Oliver Haynes and Kai Ward were matched by great
defensive performances. In the end Jason Dalitz took the three points with one
of his best games of the season at Right Back. Daniel Ryan who never stopped
running all day in the centre midfield got 2 points while Chris Bessant at Left
Back got 1 point. Great game also
from Liam O'Dwyer who has really improved his goal-keeping skills this season.
Well done boys!!!
Under 10s v SS&A, lost 0-4
We started off very well with
a lot of accurate passing which kept the ball in the oppositions half. Patrick
Lloyd-Donald really got stuck into the ball a few times, which left SS&A
players wondering what happened. Our defence was again put to the test but Gina
Furze just would not let them through without a struggle. When they did break
through Skye Weston was there to chase the ball down. Our attacking did get
through occasionally with some good crosses from Chris Wright. I think our
goalkeeper Adrian Ried made the save of the match, his dive was the stuff you
read about. We did go down eventually but it was a hard fought game.
Under 9s v Twin City (blue), won 1-0
It was always going to be a tough encounter in a must win game to stay
in the title race with two players away and Daniel too crook to play on the
field, but the team all lifted and put up a spirited performance against a
determined Twin City outfit. The team struggled to find much cohesion during
the first half, but still managed several shots on goal. Tyla put away a classy
long range shot half way though the half to give us a deserved 1-0 lead. Our
midfield tended to disappear at times leaving our defence of Ben, Jocelyn and
Rebecca to mop up, which to their credit they did. Max and Sam worked
tirelessly up front along with Thomas who set up several more opportunities to
add to the scoreline. Max and Ben both having fantastic strikes on goal, only
to be foiled by their goalie. Dominic put in another strong performance as he
continues to improve with each game, tackling ferociously on numerous
occasions, while Michael improved his workrate. Daniel put in a faultless
performance in goal.
Star player awards: Jocelyn and Rebecca for tough defence and Sam
Cronin for positional play and workrate.
