Seniors v Wangaratta, won 5-1

Less errors at the back provided the platform for an outstanding victory as our form improves. Scores were locked at nil all at half time, although we had a few good chances to score it wasn’t to be. Some guidance was offered to forwards Ben and Mick at half time from coach Kel and captain Darrel and it work wonders as our forward three of Darrel, Ben and Mick terrified the Wang defence which lead the way for a superb hat-trick by Darrel and a 30-yard cracking goal from Ryan and an excellent header from Scotty.  The only downer was allowing Wang to score a late goal. All players preformed well. The team would like to wish Darrel well for next week’s game as he players his 300th first grade game for the club, let’s make it one to remember and take all points.

Under 14s v Wangaratta, drew 0-0

Well what a great result!  The team showed how well it can play when we all put in a 100%.  What a different result from the last time we played them when they beat us 6 nil - they really had a tough match on their hands.  The team showed why they are in second spot on the ladder behind Wang and this game could have been the final.  Some great attempts at goals that normally would have gone in were saved by excellent saves from the Wang. goalkeeper who showed why he is the SAW rep. goalkeeper.  Pete asked for 100% and the boys gave it to him.  Another big game this week and we need to play even better!!

Junior Ladies v Wangaratta, lost

The team were missing a few girls once again so our team played with only 8 girls.  The girls are improving each week and it is good to see that they haven't lost their enjoyment of the game.  Next week's game against Twin City will be tough so hopefully we can have a full team.

Thirds v Wangaratta, lost 0-1

Disappointing result but we played OK. We had trouble getting the ball in the net. The defence was good with Rhys saving a penalty and Trevor doing a great job. Johnny made some great runs down the left and Phil and Finny's workrates were outstanding. Thanks to Josh and Pat for helping out.

Under 13s v Wangaratta, lost 3-4
Almost there! A great improvement in defence after last week with Matt Townsend, Sam, Zak and Michael holding the mighty Wangaratta 13s to 1-0 at half time, but we had not mounted a serious attack. After a few well chosen words at half time from coach Tuksar, we went out ready to do damage - oops! Wang scored two quick goals. After that we kicked into gear across the park with the midfield and forwards working hard and pressuring the opposition goal. This resulted in a clever goal from Andrew that was lobbed behind their keeper and two team goals finished well by Andrew and Josh. James Heath, James Gordon, Luke and Josh had a strong second half with good saves in goals from Todd and later, Alex. The whole team should be pleased with their second half performance and were unlucky not to score an equaliser in the dying seconds of the game (the full time whistle went as we were taking a free kick in front of goal). This week’s award went to James Gordon who worked hard in attack.

Under 12s v Wangaratta, drew 1-1

Well done girls & boys for a good effort in holding Wang back to make it a draw, awards went to Zac our sweeper and our goal keeper Tom. Our goal was by David, there were a lot of tries but they didn’t get passed Wang’s goal keeper.

Under 12s v Diamonds, lost 1-3 (previous week)

Well we put the first score on the board, then it was nap time. Aras scored the only goal for us, there were plenty of tries but nothing went in. The awards went to Brad and Jarrod, thank you Kia for helping out while Zac is still on holidays and Shannon is sick also Stuart is still out. The ladder shows we’re sixth - that's good kids.

Under 10s v Wangaratta, lost 1-2

We had no reserve players for this game but everybody was fit and ready for the match. It was a good start until they scored the first goal. Even that didn’t slow down our play, we continued to attack and Robert Gentle took the ball away from the attacking team a few times when they got a bit close. The first half was very evenly matched. We went on the attack ourselves in the second half and after a classic build up with some good passing by Skye Weston, Aleki Ward had a running shot at their goal that just passed outside the post. Wangaratta did mount a few attacks which were stopped by Gina Furze. After a few mammoth runs with help from a good build up by Jake Gardiner, James Eggleston scored our first goal. Wangaratta managed to squeeze one more in just as the final whistle blew.

Under 9s v Wodonga Panthers, won 2-0

A very lacklustre performance against a depleted Panthers who made us look ordinary! Too many players not playing in their correct positions and getting in each others way cost us many goal scoring opportunities. Tyla opened the scoring with a magnificent drive from well outside the area after some good defensive work from Ben, Rebecca, Jocelyn and James. Our goalies, Dylan and Sam Cronin had very little to do.

Our midfield was mostly non existent as they wandered forward and often ended up offside (8 times in the first half!). At one stage we had seven strikers! Daniel was very unlucky once again, hitting the bar with a powerful header from a well taken corner by Tyla. Thomas added a final goal to make the scoreline a little more respectable with a well taken shot from the edge of the area. We will have to get back to the basics this week if we are to remain in the title race. Star player award: Domenic for a great workrate. Next week: v SS&A (Red) @ Melrose Pk. K.O.12:20. Halftime oranges: Schultz. Star player awards: Clements
