Seniors v Lavington Panthers, won 4-1

A great victory on not such a great day weather wise. Firstly we would like to wish Nat farewell and thank him for being the man he is and for playing at Hotspurs. As one leaves another arrives. Welcome to the club David McHugh. David played his first game for the club, fitted in well to the team and had a solid game. The game was played quite well considering the conditions. We made up for a poor display the last time we met this team and scored three first half goals and took control of the game. Every game we play now we must all pull together as a team (subs and all) and work hard to get the wins and stay in contention for the championship.

Reserves v Lavington Panthers, drew 1-1

Ladies v Lavington Panthers, won 16-0

Ladies (15?) vs Lavington Panthers (0). Apologies for not actually knowing the final score, but it was just one of those games. Sunday's match was in rather unique circumstances because:
a) our ground was saturated
b) coaching was provided from Sydney via a mobile phone
c) our opposition had a total of nine players; and
d) we had a team of fifteen!
Feeling more like a training session than a match, the net seemed harder than ever to find. Everyone was having a crack though, with shots taken from just about every angle imaginable. A very low-pressure game which was a bit of fun, but still some great team play showing especially through the middle of the park.  It was also fantastic to note the willingness of players to take a rest on the bench to let others have a run. Really, really important and a great show of team spirit.

Thirds v Lavington Panthers, lost 1-4

Poor first half- heard that before! But we did play well in the second half and may have scored a few more goals. Good games from Trevor, Phil and Tim. Special mention of Josh who played two full games and was a great contributor in thirds. Rhys made some nice saves and Johnny did some good runs down the left wing. We don't play for a few weeks, let’s train hard and have a good second round.

Under 15s v SSA Wed night, lost 0-9

The game was going to be a tough one following the withdrawal from the team of Amy, Georgia and Luke, and we were not disappointed, SSA proved far too quick and constantly beat us to the ball, sharp passing soon found holes in our defence and before long the tally was rapidly rising. A number of our boys, particularly some of the under 14s played strongly and were not intimidated by the SSA players. Best players were Seato, David Myers, Peter Muth and Josh. Thanks to Ben, Mark and Andrew for filling in, in our time of need.

Under 15s v Lavington Panthers, lost 0-5

It was a dark and gloomy Sunday morning at Aloysious Park as we prepared to take on Lavington, the team needed much psyching up from the horrors of the previous Wednesday night but supercoach Belgre was up to the task. However, the first half did not follow the script, the weather matched our play, and the heavens opened during the first half. Before long we were down 5 nil. At half time Supercoach had inspirational words to the team, made some exciting positional changes and provided the team with magic oranges, The rain stopped and a new revitalised team took the field, gone were the timid players who let the Panthers do as they liked, the new team took it up the opposition, tackled stoutly and passed the ball with skill and timing. This time it was Lavington doing most of the defending, we had a number of good chances but unluckily failed to find the back of the net and to our credit kept Lavington scoreless in the second half. Best players were Nathan and Amy, Seato and Pat played strongly in the second half whilst Josh and Brad were solid in defence. This week we travel to Cobram, let’s hope our second half team makes the trip and we may well come away with a win.

Under 14s v Lavington Panthers, won 8-1

A very shaky start saw the opposition scoring their first and only goal in the first few minutes off the game.  The team responded to this challenge and started to pick up their players and work as a team. We were up 5-1 at half time and Pete said he'd be happy if we could keep them from getting any more goals which the team achieved and also increased the scoreline to 8-1.  Goals to Seato 1, Matty Paynter 3 and Luke 4.  Welcome to Lyall who had a good first game for the Hotspurs.  Great try at goal Sam. Next week will be a tough one against Cobram but if we can play as a team like we have shown in the last couple of weeks it should be a good game.

Under 12s v Lavington Panthers won 5-1

Another fantastic game by the girls & boys, the first goal was scored within 5 minutes of the game by Caleb from a pass from David. Other goals were from Ricky from a header 1, David 2, by taking on the other side, Daniel 1, by just hanging back and waiting until the ball came out of the pack. There were some fantastic passing by all and also the use of the whole field again. Great job again by our goal keepers Jarrod & Tom. Once again thank you Stan for warming up the kids , we hope Stuart is back on deck soon.

Under 11s v Lavington Panthers - lost 0-3
Missing five players due to illness for this important encounter  was always going to make this a tough match for us. In the end the result was pleasing against such a strong team. Down 0-2 in the early stages of the first half the boys fought back well to make it a more even game during the second half. A big thank you to James Eggleston and Jake Gardiner from the 10s and Daniel Gordon from the 9s who all had great games. B.O.G was Jason Dalitz followed by Jonny Lindsay and Kai Ward in goals. Next week is expected to
be another tough match against Cobram so its hoped that the dreaded lurgy will have passed on by and that as many players as possible can return to play.

Under 10s v Lavington Panthers, lost 1-3

It was a bit soft under foot for the start of this game and both teams looked very even in the first few minutes. Suddenly they made a quick break and scored after just five minutes. We came back just as quickly, after a good build up involving Skye Weston and Tom Watson, Blake Schroeter shot a fine goal for Hotspurs. Later in the match our defence got us out of some sticky situations with Jake Gardiner covering a lot of ground with Phillip Robbie and Robert Gentle defending well at the back. We went down in the end but not without some good team play.

Under 9s v Twin City Wanderers (Maroon), drew 0-0

A very tough match against some formidable opposition. It was always going to be difficult to score with two of our strikers absent, but we still created the better chances in an end to end display of skilful soccer. Our defence was once again inpenetrable allowing just one shot on goal which Thomas saved easily. Rebecca, Ben, Jocelyn and James all tackled well and worked very hard throughout the entire match. The midfield of Tyla, Daniel, Domenic, Michael and Dylan all performed well managing to provide Max and Thomas with several opportunities to settle the encounter, but it was against another very strong defence and we settled for a point to maintain our unbeaten record. This match was one of our best performances to date, as the workrate by all was much improved and players started to play in their positions for the entire match. Thank-you to Ian Belgre for refereeing the match.

Next week’s match could determine the championship as we come up against the only other unbeaten team, Albury City. We will need to be at our best against an opposition who have only conceded 2 goals in 10 games!

Star player awards - Rebecca Briggs and James Ellis for fantastic defence

Next week: v Albury City @ Glen Park, K.O. 12:20. Oranges- Weston, Star player awards - Johnson
