-WALK
ON WATER- Albury Hotspurs v Myrtleford –Sunday, June 2, 2002 Another victory and three points gained as the team is starting to
show what it’s capable of. The score was not a true reflection of the game
as we missed considerable chances in both halves. We kept plugging away and
did scramble in our first goal by Ryan who learnt from the master Robert in
last week’s game and used all parts of his face to put the ball into the
net. 1 2 3 4, yes we can count as Robert smashed home our second from the
walk on water free kick that is proving quite successful this year. Ryan
Giles was unlucky not to have scored more as he was denied three times in
the space of five minutes by an outstanding Myrtleford goalkeeper. Bones
showed great elevation and worked hard most the whole game. Darrel worked
back a couple of times to halt Myrtleford’s attack and showing his desire
to make sure of the victory. The defence would like to thank Darrel for
showing us how to clear the ball. Ladies v Myrtleford won 5-1 Junior
Ladies v
Myrtleford lost 12-0 Again we came up against a very strong and experienced side.
Welcome to Erin Gibson, we now are able to have a
much-needed sub. All the girls are improving each week and it
is good to see that their enthusiasm hasn't waned. We need to work on
at training learning how to kick the ball further and harder
and then we will give these other teams a real run for their
money. A game where things didn't go our way. We played quite well - our
passing was much better than last week! Good games from Phil Aitken and
Rhys Yerbury kept us in the game. Keep working hard - because we can get
some points this week. After a very positive start where we took an early lead through
excellent passing which lead to a good goal by Josh, we were competitive
for most of the game but were eventually worn down by the Myrtleford
players and finished up conceding 4 goals. The performance by the Hotspurs
again showed good commitment and skills which show we are not far behind
the leading teams. A number of our players including Brad, Mathew and
Nathan had solid games and continue to improve each week. A special thank
you to Luke Briggs, Johnny Seaton, John Belgre and Andrew Lindsay for
filling once again. Our next game is on Wednesday, June 12 at Jelbart Park. Our best game of the season! There was a lot of talk on the
field and along with the great teamwork this saw us end up with this great
result. We were up 3-0 at half time but lapsed to let them get two
goals against us. All the team played well with John
(Seaton) & Ben scoring two goals each and Luke
(Briggsy) 3. An excellent team game that was enjoyed
by all the parents. Thanks to the parents who helped set up the grounds and
dismantle it was appreciated. Well done girls & boys, the training has paid off. The use
of the whole field and passing to each other shows that as a team you do
have what it takes to play a great game of soccer. Good passing by Caleb to
Jarrod to Ricky who scored, also good passing from Shannon to Daniel
then to Jess. A good cross by Caleb to Daniel which put the ball away
to add another goal, The kids gave 100% today with Jess &
Shannon stopping the opposition getting the ball, also our back
line Paddy, Steven, Brad and Zac our sweeper, who kept some of pressure off
the goal keeper. Tom our goally did a fantastic job in goals. Goal scored
was shared by Caleb 3, Daniel 1, Ricky 2, Jarrod 1, Tim 1, Aras 1,
also there was attempts at goals by Jess, Tim which hit the corner
post and bounced out also by Brad from outside 18 yard box. Thanks Tim
for playing. Thanks to Stan for warming up the kids prior to the
game. Played all over a mediocre opposition. This was a great opportunity
to play some good team soccer and swap positions around for a change. Best
on ground was Liam Ellis, who must have read last week's game report on
getting to the ball first! Tim Holt followed with three goals and Jarrod
Benton also played well. The other goal scorer was Kai Ward. Clean sheets
to our two maiden goalkeepers for the week, Johnny Lindsay and Oliver
Haynes. What at game! If Australia had played like us we would be in the
World Cup now. The first few moments of the game put our defence to the
test but when we warmed up the team played like champions. The first goal
started from a good deep kick from our goalie Adrian Read, it was picked up
by our forwards, James Eggleston then ran it home for the goal. The force
was definitely with us from that moment on, Blake Schroeter scored our
second goal just five minutes later. The second half was filled with good
attacking play by Patrick Lloyd-Donald. Two more goals were scored, a
second by James another by Chris Wright. The whole team played a brilliant
game, Peter’s coaching has all come together. A great result for
Hotspurs in a very tense battle against a very strong defensive team, who
up until this match had only conceded 2 goals for the season to date. Max
Humphries once again giving a faultless display, producing numerous goal
scoring opportunities and splitting their defence with pinpoint passing.
Hotspurs scored after 10 minutes when some great passing ended with Max
slotting home from close range. Once again our defensive intencity eased
off and St Pats nipped in to equalise. Once the players realised that they
had to work to win this match, their efforts all lifted resulting in the
winner to Sam Gunning who drove home after some more slick passing. Our
defence of Rebecca, Ben, James and Jocelyn all worked tirelessly in the
second half limiting St Pats to just one shot which Dominic saved with
ease. The midfield of Daniel, Tyla, Thomas, Dominic and Dylan also raised
their work effort and set up a few more chances without success. Sam
Cronin, Sam Gunning and Max were all fantastic up front splitting the St
Pats wide open on numerous goal attempts. A magnificent tackle to deny St
Pats by Tyla towards the end of the game capped another fine game by him
& on his birthday! This result was our most satisfying to date as the
guys really lifted when it was required and got a well deserved victory.
Next week we have a bye, but it doesn’t get any easier for us the week
after, as we play the other front runners Twin City (Maroon). Thanks for
your continued support parents, it definitely lifts the kids. Star player award - Dylan
Weston for a great work rate and positional play. Draw for Sunday 9th June, Hotspurs v Benalla at Churchill Reserve- Benalla, BYES Tens,

Seniors v
Myrtleford won 2-0
The
first game for winter was under gloriously sunny skies, and the amount of
girls that turned up to play was something else to smile about. Recent
performances by Myrtleford indicated some good form, the question was how
good. A slow start shown by Hotspurs (no surprises there!) but after we
scored the first goal (thanks Chappo), the momentum picked up. Another
goal, then another found the net before it was half time. Hotspurs were
again the first to score, yay to Jess who survived a strong contest to see
it home! Caught a little off guard, Myrtleford came back with a goal, but
the game was put beyond doubt by yet another Chappo goal. Quality play all
over the park, and great use of the bench to give everyone a run. Notable
performances though would have to put Flynnie right up there. What a girl,
what a goalkeeper! Have a great break Al, we'll be giving the gloves to Fi
to keep 'em warm for ya!Thirds v Myrtleford lost 0-2
