CUP WINNERS 1999lLEAGUE CHAMPIONS 2000
HOTSPURS HERALD
Volume 7, 2001
Seniors v Melrose won 4-0, Wednesday night match
The highlight of the evening was Kelvin reaching a milestone playing in his 300th senior first grade game for Albury Hotspurs. The team won and Kelvin scored a goal making it a very enjoyable 300th for him.
Seniors v United drew 0-0
Reserves v Melrose drew 2-2, Wednesday night match
After a slow start we found ourselves down 2 nil. To the teams credit they dug deep and fought back to claim a much needed point. A great goal to Shane started the comeback and a penalty in the dying stages, taken calmly by BIG Ivan, finished it. Nick was dominating in the defence and Johnno had a big game in goals. It was a great team effort.
Reserves v United won 4-2
The first 15 minutes saw the Spurs under a barrage of attack but the defence held solid. Spurs went one up after a dashing run from Peter Wood who then crossed a perfect ball to Peter Gunning who slotted it calmly in the corner. United claimed one back to go to the break one all. Soon after the break Spurs’ intentions were clear after Gunning rose above the pack to head home another goal. A superb effort by the Uncle Ben’s boys, Hooper, Jimmy and Gunning enabled the Spurs to go another goal up with Robbo finishing off a great movement with a delicate chip that bamboozled the keeper. Super sub Wildy came on and drilled a shot into the corner of the goal to make it 4-1. A late goal to United left it at 4-2. A great game by the whole team, especially Fish, Nick and Hooper who all had blinders. Special mention to the coach who made three substitutions with all three scoring.
Ladies v United won 3-0
A fair tussle was played out on Sunday at Jelbart, but consistency paid off with a great win. A classy header from Mia and a superb penalty from Amy put the 'Spurs two up at half-time, with Georgia scoring the last. It was fantastic to have a full team for the entire match, and what a good looking bunch they were too! For such a great effort, you can all have this weekend off!
Thirds v United lost 1-2
This probably was our best defensive effort but overall our tenacity and determination were lacking. We took the lead but conceded two soft goals and didn’t deserve to win. Tim, Mark and Johnny tried hard and Trev continued his good form. Come on fellas, we all know that we can play a lot better. We can’t rely on one or two blokes each week, all 11 on the park must contribute.
Thirds v Myrtleford won 2-1
A great effort considering we had a number of players absent . Great goal from Olly and terrific game from Thomas at sweeper .
Frankie, Trevor and Johnny all played very well.
Under 15s v Twin City Wanderers won 3-0
Great game played by all. Two goals to Brendan Jones & Josh Carter. Defence held very strong all match, with some great saves by Rhys. Big improvement by Ricki. Thanks to Under 14s Josh, Pat & Thomas and Little Briggsy from the Under 13s. A solid performance by this team. Keep up the training boys and it will pay dividends.
Under 14s v United Lost 1 - 3
Great play Boys & Girls. Great goalkeeping Seato & Matt Connole for first time. Great play Brad, Nathan, Matt, Amy, Georgia & James. Goal scored by Peter. Thank you to Seato, Luke (Briggsy) & Andrew for helping out. Good luck Peter on your operation on Monday, 21/5/01
Under 14s v Myrtleford won 2-1
It was great to get our first win this year. This was a solid team effort. The defence was excellent with Thomas and Amy
outstanding. Josh scored a top goal. Pat and Nathan played well in the foward line. Well done everyone
Under 12s v United lost 2-3
Soccer is a game of two halves and unfortunately we seem to be only playing one of them. Great first half which saw us take a 2-0 lead courtesy of Matt Reid after some great team play. The second half saw a different team come out on the park which lacked all of the qualities of the first half team.
Under 11s v United Lost 2 - 4
Good game, next time may be a better result. Goals scored by Ricky and Caleb. Good try at goals Jessica Briggs, Ricky & Jessica Segelaw.
Under 10s v United lost 0-4
Kids went into "cold shock", with the first frosty and foggy morning of the year, having to play the top team; coming out of
the mist with a loss of 4 -0. August 19th is put down as the big day for our retribution. Best players for the day were, Oliver Haynes, Kai Ward, Jon Lindsay and Shaun Dalitz.
Under 9's "Gold" V Twin City Wanderers - win 5-1
Another impressive performance from the Golden Hotspurs against a previously unbeaten Wanderers outfit. Daniel was magnificent in goals in the first half, making several great saves to keep our lead and provide some monster goal kicks. Our defence was again our strength as our defensive General Rebecca kept a tight rein on the defenders; James Ellis and Isabella who both played strongly. Max, Ben and Patrick were once again tireless in the midfield providing countless through balls for our strikers and helping out the defence when required. Our strike force of James Eggleston (1), Jake (1) and Chris (2) were all impressive up front snapping up every opportunity for a shot at goal. Several of our goals resulting from unselfish passing to players in better scoring positions. Special mention must go to Chris and Max whose positional play was excellent. Daniel capped a good performance by blasting home his first goal from the penalty spot after Jake (Michael Owen!) was brought down. A fantastic Team effort by all players who all contributed 100% and never relaxed until the final whistle.
Star Player award - James Ellis for great tackling and passing.
Hotspurs Black v SS&A lost
Our defensive skills kept the opposition at bay for a while. Gina Furze made a spectacular save in the opening minutes
of the game. The opposition’s attacking skills were a bit too strong and they led at half-time. In the second half Hotspurs Black were passing and clearing with a lot more accuracy and when SS&A team got too near our goal Emily Scott was there to clear the ball away. We played a hard game and although we lost, we gave it our best.
Under 18 Girls v St Patrick’s drew 1-1, Under 13s v United won 5-1
