Seniors v Myrtleford won 7-1
Outstanding first half by the whole team with the boys playing the way the coach requested and instructed at training during the week. The team lost its way in the second half and couldn’t regroup, which is something we need to work on. Great hat-trick Robert, excellent goals by Ryan and Brett finished the second time for his goal. Kelvin scored a gutless goal from the penalty spot, so said the Myrtleford goalkeeper and Peter Gunning showed him how to stop them.
Reserves v Myrtleford won 4-1
Another great win to the reserves, who are finding some great form heading into the finals. Spurs fielded a young team, which included 5 players from the third division. Tom Crosley showed plenty of maturity playing sweeper, while Josh Evans had a blinder, scoring a couple of goals. John Belgre did a mountain of work, as did Mick Corkett and the Lumberjack Trevor was a pleasure to watch. Mick Lucken again played a strong game as did Shane Whelan in the midfield. Thanks to all the thirds for helping out (and playing so well), it was great to finally see the Lumberjacks in action.
Under 14s v Myrtleford lost 0-6
Great goal keeping by Matt. Tries by Pat, Luke. Good play by all, thank you for helping out Daniel, Luke, Seato, James G, Andrew.
Under 14s v Cobram lost 0-3
Great play by all, there was a few tries at scoring but it wouldn’t go in. Great goal keeping by Seato and Matt.
Thank you to the subs Daniel, James, Andrew and Seato.
Under 11s v Myrtleford lost 1-2
Goal by David. Tries by Daniel, Ricky, Caleb, Aras, David.
Good play by Shannon, Zac as sweeper, Jessica B, Jessica S, David, Jarrod as goalkeeper.
Under 11s v Cobram lost 1-5
Well played girls and boys. Goal scored by Caleb. Great goal keeping by Jarrod.
Under 10s v Myrtleford won 4-0
An easy win to the Hotspurs, with our boys dominating the whole game. Terrific kick from Liam Ellis outside the goal area, deflecting off a Myrtleford player for our first goal. Other goals kicked by Shaun Dalitz and Tim Holt. Good save from Jarrod Benton when they had a breakaway down to our goal. Next week will be our last chance for a win before the finals.
Under 9s
Hotspurs Gold v Albury United won 3-0
A game of contrasting halves as the team struggled to put it together during a lacklustre first half display. We gifted Utd several opportunities through a lack of teamwork and communication as our midfield was non-existent leaving big gaps between the strikers and defence. We did produce several good opportunities for our strikers Chris Wright and James Eggleston, but failed to finish.
The second half was all one way traffic from the golden hotspurs as we really turned it on, Daniel scoring with a rocket from on the edge of the area after just 20 seconds after a magnificent through ball from Jake who played his best game of the season setting up numerous chances for our strikers in his role of sweeper. Our defence of Rebecca, James Ellis, Ben and Isabella finally started to put it together, providing the midfield of Brent, Max, Patrick and Chris Cambey with some good support. Daniel, Max, Rebecca and Brent all kept goal strongly as we experimented with different formations throughout the match. Additional goals were scored by James Eggleston who took any opportunities sharply.
We will need to improve (sticking to positions and defensive play) if we are to seriously challenge for the premiership.
Star player awards - Jake Gardiner for great teamwork and Daniel Gordon for some power shooting on goal.
Hotspurs Black v Melrose lost 1-5
We thought we had them on the run at the start of the game. The ball was in their half most of the time. Then with almost no warning they had scored a goal. But Sam Gunning came back with an equaliser in the 13th minute. That was the high point of the game for us as things didn't get much better after that, even with Sam Cronin's tenacious tackling. The captain Michael Johnson's precise passing helped give us a few breaks and we could say that although we went down, it was not without much improved team play.
Ladies v Myrtleford won 4-1
Thirds v Myrtleford won 2-0
Under 15s v St Pats lost 0-5
Under 13s v Myrtleford won 2-1
Under 12s v Myrtleford lost 1-5
