HOTSPURS HERALD

Volume 13, 2001

Seniors v Panthers won 4-1

More goals would have been nice and we should have scored more but it was a comfortable victory anyway. Fish had a great game, his determination and hard work was much appreciated by the coach. Well done Ryan (one goal), Ben (one goal, now 4 goals in six games) and Robert (two goals). Robert would have score a plethora if he wasn’t suffering from red wine poisoning. The highlight of the day was the outstanding showers at Willow Park, the water pressure was fantastic and all who showered will agree.

No training for the seniors this Tuesday but will be on Thursday as usual. We need to boost our goal average this Sunday against Benalla. It will be important at the end of the season.

Thirds v Panthers won 3-2

Second win on the trot, 7 points out of our last 3 games, well done boys. Thanks to Nat, Ben and (Huckleberry) Finn for filling in when we were struggling for numbers due to holidays. The score could've turned out quite differently as the midfield and forwards didn't take the most of our opportunities which resulted in a nervous 5 mins when Panthers scored to make it 3-2. Luckily we made it though thanks to the defensive leadership of Trevor (Late, Air Swing, Chopper Boy) Dickinson who made up for his previous own goal. Goals to Mick, Nick and Ben. Belgre snr lead with the most misses with 3 in which 2 were way off target.

Under 12s V Panthers won 8-0

A great team effort and excellent team goals. Josh Haberfield had a great game playing at sweeper, controlling and organising the defence and stopping any Panther that escaped our backmen.

Under 11s V Panthers won 4-1

Great game by all of the team. Thank you Tim for filling in, attempts at scoring were Aras, David, Daniel, Jessica S, Ricky, Tim. Goals scored by Caleb, David, Ricky, Jessica S all 1 each.

Under 10s v Panthers won 4-0

The ball was down at Panthers end almost all the game, with the Panthers goal box full of Hotspurs and Panthers players most of the game. The game seemed to consist of multiple missed shots at goals, giving the opposition goalie an extremely active game. Once again, our usual goalkeeper, Kai Ward, once out on the field, with his usual enthusiastic manner, scored 2 goals. Best players, Kai Ward, Tim Holt, and Liam Ellis.

Under 9s

Hotspurs Black v Hotspurs Gold lost 3-1

What a match the goalkeepers had. Our first half goalkeeper Tyler Windham made a point of coming out to the attacking player and more than once forced them to shoot wide. An inspired run by Sam Gunning scored our only goal. The second half saw the Gold team put more pressure on and again the goalie Blake Schroeter saved the day more than once. The final score was 3 - 1 in Gold’s favour but everyone played their best.

Hotspurs Gold v Hotspurs Black won 3-1

Another step on our path to recovery against a much-improved Hotspurs black outfit. Despite numerous goal attempts we could only manage two goals in the first half, although both were excellent team goals built from good work by our defence of James Ellis, Brent and Daniel. Our midfield of Isabella, Max and Chris Cambey worked tirelessly to provide through balls to our strikers. Jake and Chris Wright snapped up the first half goals. Several changes at half time resulted in an onslaught by the "golds", but we still could not finish off our opportunities despite "camping" in the oppositions half. James Eggleston was excellent in defence assuming Rebecca’s role as "the defensive general". Daniel scored our only second half goal with a great shot after another strong performance. James Ellis and Isabella kept goal.

Now that we are once again starting to spread the field and pass a lot more, the goals are inevitable. The day we do click some poor team will be in shock!!

Star player award - Brent for a fantastic work rate.
