Match reports
Under 11’s V Wodonga Diamonds Lost 1 – 5
Under 12’s V Twin City Won 3 – 0
Super team effort. Playing a team that had beaten us a few weeks earlier the Hotspurs 12’s have found great form at the right time and played some very good football.
We were on top in the first half creating many chances before going one up at halftime with Connor scoring his first. TCW threatened on their right wing but were held up as Coach Roy subbed fresh legs thru this area throughout the game. Congrats to Roy for an excellent win.
The second half was similar with an own goal coming from a well taken Wendell corner and Connor scoring his second goal. Top captains effort, well done Connor.
Our defence was awesome keeping TCW scoreless with Zach playing very well as GK showing safe hands and a fearless attack on the ball. Zach crashed into a TCW player clearing the ball, and got up to achieve a clean sheet, very well done Zach. Harry led the defence superbly and kept TCW out with fantastic games from Marcus, Sarsha and Riley. (again)
Midfield were great, Jaspa had another top game as CDM and Wendell at CAM was excellent. Josh continued his great form on the right wing
and Kye was dangerous all game helping to create many chances up forward. Scotty, Naresh and Tyrese all contributed excellent games playing their parts as did Sammi and Toby from the 11’s who had already played in a tough final earlier.
Another win and we are in a Cup Final.
Go Spurs.
Under 12’s Girls V Melrose FC Won 3 – 0
Under 13’s V Wangaratta Drew 3-3 and lost on penalties Lost 4 – 7
What a game of changing fortunes. Wangaratta had the ball, we had the ball, they had the ball and this is how it went. The game was evenly matched and the result could have gone either way. Wangaratta scored against the run of play, then they scored again from a very unlikely position outside the 16 yard box and way out on the wing and right on half time. So we go into the break 2 nil down. Wangratta scored again early in the second half and all the spectators were probably thinking its “all over, red rover”. Nobody told our boys this … they never gave up. Felix scored our first from a crossed ball and then scored the second from a play between himself and Kye and went on to scored our third from some confusion in the goal mouth.
This meant that the game was tied up 3-3 at full time …. now to extra time …. still locked at
3-3 after two periods of extra time … now a penalty shoot out …. Wangaratta managed to score more than us unfortunately …. There were no losers today. Our boys did the impossible to come from 3 nil down to draw and then miss out on penalties. Boys you are stars and did Hotspurs proud.
Under 14’s V United Won 2 – 0
The Under 14s posted a terrific win on Sunday over Albury United in their Quarter-Final. With a full complement of players available every team member made a valuable contribution to the 2-0 win. Cody scored the first goal in the first half after the ball had ricocheted all around the box, while Zac scored the second towards the end of the match with a lovely ball lofted over the United goalkeeper. One of the turning points of the match was when the United attack rounded our keeper Ray who leapt straight back up and delivered a crunching and fair challenge on the opposition, saving an almost certain goal. After winning against United three times this season now, Hotspurs go through to a tough semi final with dreams of another cup success. The team has glued together after a good season only lost on goal difference, and now they face the biggest challenge of the season. Good luck, Spurs!
Under 14’s Girls V United Lost 2 – 4
A glorious sunny day greeted our band of girls at Willow Park Wodonga on Sunday for a quarter final encounter against the green and white, it was truly a case of what could have been, our girls started very well which was a total contrast to recent form and we even led United 1 nil after a stunning strike from Anna from outside the box. We were a bit short on troops and it started to tell late in the first half with United slotting 3 quick goals past us in the last 10 minutes of the first half, a bit of a regroup and the girls started the second half well again and got it back to 2-3 down after Mary slotted a clever goal past the keeper after some very good lead up work by Juju and Hannah.
The girls never stopped trying however their tired legs telled again with United grabbing a late goal to knock us out of the competition.
As mentioned earlier a case of what could have been, losing Tarsha and Erica to season ending injuries only 5 weeks in to the competition didn’t help our cause and we were also without Sammy (cadets) and Mercy (tennis) for this weekend so that left us with 7 of our under 14 girls (Mary, Shelby, Lilly, Anna, Hannah, Isabella and Juju) and 6 of our super under 12’s playing up (Stephanie, Laura, Bella, Yasmin, Alesha and Sarsha).
All of our girls put in a very committed performance and I would like to thank each and every one of them for their efforts this year, it has been a long season, however I have enjoyed it immensely to have played a part in your year with hotspurs.
Today’s award winners were Anna, Mary and Yasmin
Don’t forget Junior Presentation is on this Saturday at 2pm at the home ground
Under 16’s V Boomer FC Won 3 – 2
Under 17’s Girls V United Lost 1 – 5
Third’s V United Lost 0 – 1
The thirds season ended with a narrow loss. The team was outstanding in this game and very nearly sent the game to extra time with a couple of near misses late in the game. The defence was excellent with John Belgre and Sajit playing really well. Hamish, Bhupen,Ben, Henry, Joel and Jacob all had top games. The whole team played with great heart and they should all be very proud of their season.
Over 35’s V St Pats Lost 0 – 2
An exceptional start to the game where we had them on the back foot & shut them down at every opportunity. 7 minutes on the clock & in true Kelvin Davies style, 35 metres out near the sideline, we see him hit the ball for the far top corner of the goals only to see the oppositions keeper just getting his fingertips to the ball & touching it onto the cross bar. Unfortunately for us this resulted in Kels sudden departure from the field with an injured quad. Big Jim didn’t last much longer in goals before succumbing to another injury.
This left us with (surprise surprise) the bare 11 players on the park again. It seems to be our curse this season to play with no subs. We kept our cool & never let them settle & continued to frustrate them at nearly every turn.
A soft penalty to them on the stroke of half time & a fortunate goal in the second half was the only difference in a great game. We were again structurally sound in all departments, a vast improvement on our earlier games in the year. Another fantastic effort from every player on the team again.
Reserve Women V Albury City Won 1 – 0
Reserves V Melrose Lost 1 – 3
A poor first half made things difficult for the reserves. Our opponents had three goals before we started to play to our ability. Milky, Dhan and Santi worked hard up front. Zac, Joel and Middi also had good games. Although disappointed with Sundays result the Ressies had some good wins this year and should aim higher next year
Seniors V Twin City Lost 0 – 2
The seniors did a good job against the cup favourites and were a huge improvement on their recent form. Drummo made some top saves and Mark Belgre and Jon Cochrane were good in defence. Sam Thorman and Alex Eggleston did a top job up front. The seniors finished the year with ten wins and can hold their heads high.
