BACK TO ALOYSIUS PARK
It was great to be back at home last weekend. The fields were muddy but not too bad considering the rain we have had over past weeks. The canteen looked terrific after its upgrade and I noticed a few jealous glances from our opposition on Sunday.
Albury United and Hotspurs have had an intense rivalry over recent years and despite the fact they have a number of teams near the top of the ladder there were a number of excellent matches where Hotspurs teams were outstanding. In particular, our senior men, led by formidable skipper, Ryan Giles, scored twice in the last twenty minutes to gain an upset win against the higher placed United.

Match reports
Under 8s V St Pats
We had a full turn out for today’s match against St Pats. Everyone put in a great effort in perfect playing conditions. Also, thanks to Daisy who helped make up the numbers in the Hotspur’s White team.
We were all impressed with the way our team played in what was a fast and furious match from beginning to end. All the players stood their ground in defence and supported Sophie and Louis in goal. Against a tough opposition, there were many breaks through their defence with super passing and big kicks.
What was most impressive to see today was the way the kids handled the quick turn around of subs. Everyone had their turn on the side line but from there, continued to support their team with cheers and high fives. Thanks to Tyler with his clipboard and stop watch. We just need to get him a megaphone!
Coach Shaun plans to be at training this Wednesday but won’t be around for training until the 20th August (probably a little jet lagged.) He’ll let you know if there are arrangements for a fill in training coach while he’s away either on Wednesday or via email/text.
Thanks to those who are taking on the Saturday matches while Shaun is away. Edwina will still send out texts if the games are called off but please keep an eye out for Facebook updates as well. Well done today. Good luck for next weekend.
Under 11s V United Draw 1 – 1
A very hard fought draw this week between two determined teams. One of the few times our goal was tested in the first half, Will H made a very courageous save, diving between two players down low to secured the ball. Will had a quiet first half because of the outstanding defensive effort by Sanjay, Nimod, Bailey and Toby, securing and cleaning out any threats. At the other end Will P continuously provided quality crosses in front of goal.

Not long into the second half the mid field set up Sami who rushed forward controlling the ball beautifully to find the back of the net. Sami’s celebrations did not disappoint! James consistently beat opposition players around the outside to feed our forwards in attack. Christian took over goal keeping duties in the second half and pulled off a screamer. A fast ball up high which he got both hands to resulting in a corner.
At the end of the day another great team’s performance which all the parents (both Hotspurs and United) applauded. Well done boys. After the game Mark got the boys in a circle to belt out a rendition of Happy Birthday to Sami. Great to see!

Under 12s Girls V United Draw 1 – 1
What a game from the magnificent and magic nine under 12 girls who turned up to play against an un defeated United side. It was going to be a tough ask considering we lost 6 nil last time we played, but the girls dug deep and showed guts and determination and true Spurs spirit to play hard and dominate the first half. These girls read each other so well and have improved so much over the season. The defence were lead by Laura and Sarsha and supported by Ciara and Yasmin. The midfield ran hard all game and just ran out of puff at the end with Ava, Bella and Steph moving the ball well. Lil pushed hard up front and chased down every ball. Riley was absolutely awesome in goals and did an outstanding job and took one for the team playing the whole game in goals. The goal scored early was an absolute cracker by Ava. Well Done girls and thanks for battling so hard, it was a great game to watch. Keep it up and watch out finals.
Under 13s V Diamonds Lost 0 – 3
What a great game. Diamonds scored in the first minute of the game and then we had most of the play. There was some lovely passages of play such as Kye to Connor on several occasions. Riley put pressure on the opposition and Harry played well in the backs as well as overlapping well. Scott was once again on top of his game and did some magnificent saves.
Best on Ground: Scott, Manny, Bryce and Harry.
Under 13s V United Lost 0 – 6
A complete contrast to the game played on Wednesday night. United played well and were constantly first to the ball. They didn’t let us play our game and went on to freeze us out of the game. We were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions: Gerizim, Felix and Connor were near misses.
Best on ground: Connor, Wendell and Scott
Under 14s V United Won 3 – 1
Sunny day, wet track, stand-in coach with a heap of prior instructions, enough players to have a few reserves. Stage was set for a big match and that’s what we got. The team fired up quickly, and after some great passing eventually nailed an early goal. The defence was solid and the odd ball that got through was dealt with by Ray. A fair bit of physicality. Some good crosses went unfinished. A penalty in front of goal wasn’t part of the plan. The wall was so solid that the Ray couldn’t see through it and then the scores were even. 1 all at half time. A gob full of orange, a few good pointers from the father of the super coach and the second half got underway. More good passing and defence. The team kept its structure and it paid off with a second goal. Then a pinball game in front of the United goal finally hit the net for a third. Well done team – this was one of your better performances for the season and good to watch. Welcome back Oscar.
Under 14s Girls V United Lost 1 – 3
A very pleasing result for a loss, against one of the table leading girls teams it was a superb effort by our band of girls.
We only once again had a smattering of 14 girls for the game with a number away suffering from the latest big freeze, our team was made up of five 14, two 13 and six 12 year olds and what a wonderful effort they all put in, holding United to 3-1 and to win the second half 1 nil was brilliant.
We had a number of good scoring opportunities in the second half but just didn’t convert and probably were the dominant team in the second half, just need to work on that finishing.
Shelby and Anna shared the goal keeping thank you both and both were very good and with a clean sheet in the second half was excellent.
The forward line was made up of Mary and Bella who never stopped running or trying for those extra goals and they certainly kept United’s defence busy, our midfield was very ably served by Riley (stepping up for her second game in the 14’s) Lilly, Shelby, Anna, Juju, Stephanie and Sam and our defenders who really stepped up in the second half of Laura, Isabella, Yasmin and Sarsha were terrific.
Lilly scored our goal after a booming goal kick from Anna cleared the halfway line and the United defenders, Lilly was the quickest to react and ran all the way to score a clever goal.
A big thank you to Roy who stepped in to coach when the coach had to referee at the last minute.
Play like that next week girls and Wangaratta won’t know what hit them
Under 16s V United Draw 1 – 1
Under 17s Girls V United Lost 1 – 4
Thirds V United Lost 1 – 2
A really good performance against a highly ranked opponent. This was a close game right to the end and Spurs nearly achieved a point. The defence led by Joel in goals, Sajit, Caleb, Karl were outstanding. Hamish and Bhupen also played great games in midfield. Indra and Ben were a constant menace to our opponents defence all day. Well done team.
Over 35s V United Lost 0 – 11
Freeze is what we did, not much to say after last week’s win. Let’s improve for next week.
Reserve Women V United Lost 1 – 2
Even though we lost, the girls all played well and against the top side who have not lost a game we pushed all the way. The way we have been playing as a team is fantastic, the results are coming. We welcomed back Carissa who held the centre of the park with KT and our defence were as strong as ever and lead by Megan. At half time we were only one nil down and the girls continued to push hard and pass the ball around well which lead to a well deserved goal from KT. Jules had a cracking game in goals. A really good result girls, we are peaking at the right end of the season. Keep Pushing hard!!
Reserves V United Lost 1 – 3
Coach Tuksar was very happy with the Ressies game against the league leaders. Everyone was committed and determined and this kept the team in the game until the last minute. The back four of Joel, Middi, Zac and Dhan were great. Viders had a top game and was well supported by Mickett and Irish. Milky and Santi played well up front and went close to scoring a couple of times. Top effort from the Ressies.
Ladies V United Lost 0 – 6
Seniors V United Won 2 – 1
A very exciting game with the seniors coming from one down to grabbed a win in the 94th minute. Ryan Giles got both goals- the second from a free kick knocked into the top corner. Ryan had an outstanding game and dominated the United midfield. Drummo made some clutch saves in goals and Joncock, Ryan and Belgers were a good support to him. Alex Egg played a top game on the right while Paul and Tyson also had really good games. Congratulations to all players.
